Hi there people,
I see from some of the other posts that the beezer/Seat speakers are not the most popular factory fit we've ever seen. I've just installed my Pioneer HU/Changer and now the poor quality is just unbearable. What I'm thinking of doing is:
Pioneer Custom fit TS-H1702 (17's and Tweets) and my old 6x9's in a stealth shelf. My questions are:
1.When replacing the door/dash speakers do the grills simply 'unclip' and pull out?
2.When installing the 6x9's is it possible to use the existing wiring from the 6x4's?
3.Is there a way the rear speakers can be wired so that I don't have to have loads of extra wire for when the boot is fully open?
Cheers,
Tony
Right...
If you're talking about the mk 2 ibiza, the door speaker grills have a single screw in the bottom corner. Then the grill will just come out. The grills for the dash speakers just clip in and so can be prised out with a small screwdriver. These tweeters do have 4 wires stuffed into the multiplug, so make sure you wire them right! I think some Pioneer components have a matching multiplug so you can just plug them straight in.
I extended the wire from the standard 6 X 4s to reach those in my parcel shelf (only needs 20cm or so). I find this is short enough not to hang out all over the place when the boot is opened.
Hope this helps,
Steve

Why not extend the rear speaker wire enough to run it close to the pivot on the shelf and attach it to the shelf. Use plugs each side so that they can be unclipped, this way the boot can be opened without dangling wires and the shelf can still removed!
I've put in some Kenwood dualmags, using existing wires in the doors but rewiring the rest.
Haven't bothered with 6x9's myself, just put in a sub and amp with standard fit jbl's in the rear just for fill.

Yeah, I have a MkII so it sounds like there shouldn't be much trouble. I'm hoping if I get custom fits that are specifically for seat then all the connections should be ready to go. Basilcally in my last car (306) the standard speakers were so good that I had great sound quality/volume and bass (almost like having a sub ni the back). As I'm using the same head unit I'm hoping to just uprate the speakers and get a similar effect this time round (without the need for subs and amps - which is why I'm thinking 6x9's). I believe you said you were running your setup like this before Steve...what did you think?
Cheers,
Tony
Tony,
I think with 6 X 9s and front components you will be sorted. My 20cms are mounted in the standard shelf and they sound fine, although I believe they would sound even better mounted in a MDF shelf. I'd be interested to hear the difference.
I did have a sub too but have removed it because I had enough bass as it is and couldn't be bothered with all the wires and stuff everywhere.

Cool,
Well, I had a look yesterday and while the door speakers are nice and easy I'm not too sure about the dash. Once the mesh is removed, how do you actually disconnect the tweeter? Out of interest what components did you use? I've had a look at the Pioneer custom fits for a Seat and the tweets look about the right size (in other sets I've seen the tweeters look like they'd be too small for the dash hole).
Cheers again,
Tony
Once you take out the mesh the tweeters just prise out with a screwdriver and unplug. I have the Pioneer TSH1702 (I think) but to be honest I never actually got round to putting the tweeters in. The standard tweeters are slightly tinny but my head unit has enough filters and stuff to sort it out. I will get round to putting the proper tweeters in someday. Like you say these one's aren't the right size but they came with loads of plastic bits which I chopped up and glued together to make a holder that will fit in the standard hole.
Pioneer do have a set where the tweeters look exactly the right size, but the audio shop I went to didn't have any and managed to persuade me to buy the 1702s instead.

The in dash tweeters have three clips on them (or maybe 4) these are unseen though, you need to get a flat head screwdriver underneath to prize them out (be carefull when doing this, so as not to 'overly' damage the edge of the hole in the dash!)
As I said before I've got Kenny Dualmags, I came accross a couple of tuperware tubs that are a perfect fit for the existing holes and stuck my tweaters to them and made a hole for the wiring! Get looking in that kitchen!!!
Alternatively you can mount the new tweaters on a bracket or similar - remember you dont actually see them, but they need to be properly stuckdown.
I've got the crossovers behind the dash on each side, one on the flat surface below the glovebox, the other on the flat surface behind the drivers side box!
Hope this helps

Cheers guys,
They seemed pretty tight fitting but I'll have to just take the plunge and launch a screwdriver at them!
I think I'll go for the TS-H1710's as I haven't got that much tupperware left in the kitchen and the old dear would have my guts for garters if any went missing :-)
Out of interest, I'm assuming that as well as the customs being the right size they will also have the same connectors so I can litterally take out the tweets/doors and plug the new ones straight in??
