can any one help me i own a new 20v ibiza turbo the problem is when i nail the throttle the car loses power then comes back on.The dealer ship have replaced the ecu & the wastegate.Still not fixed the problem. The boost gauge will read 1.0 bar at 2250rpm then drop to .35 bar. This makes the car s--- to drive! dealership do not no what to do next, has anyone else had this problem.

a long shot , but worth a try , TELL EM to try the car with regards to the air mass meter , its possible to test whilst on road see http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif , its a bit of a fault some cars have picked up recently , seems to revert to DEFAULT pressure when its buggered ,so it MIGHT??? just be blowin at certain setting ? ?? ......... worth a test anyway ??? http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

i agree mate ,it seems that the leon and ibiza seem to be suffering a few teething problrems of late i'll stick to my 16v for now and pick up a cheap second hand turbo in a year or so's time .

James,

I suggest you go to whoever CHIPPED your car mate!!!

Standard Ibiza Turbo's don't run @ 1 bar (14psi). They run at 7psi (0.5 bar).

Mine after chipping only runs at 12psi (just under 1 bar) cos 1 bar is pretty close to the limit of the little turbo.

I've heard cases where an "overboosted" 20VT will activate its safety features when it senses the turbo has overboosted, and so immediately forces the turbo to reduce its boost levels. Ans so you have what seems like a "flatspot"....when really, its just the engine protecting itself from meltdown!!!

1 bar does seem high for the little K03 turbo. I don't think it can sustain this.
I know of a Mk2 Golf with a 1.8T motor installed in it, and it did melt its turbo twice when running approx 1bar boost.

Be careful guy!

1 bar of boost is way over the top for a std Ibiza. My chipped Beeza runs between 0.8 and 1.1 bar but that has the increased fueliing etc to allow it (reasonably!) safely.

Why it would spin up so much and then drop to just 0.35 bar is a bit puzzling.

Certainly Chungsters answer would make sense as would the air mass meter.

If your dealer still fails to cure the problem demand a full refund or exchange vehicle. This is permitted under Trading Standards laws as the vehicle has not performed how it should.

I agree, if this is thew case there seems to be a major fault in the engine management, im suprised the car isnt reverting to limp mode.

The turbo's life span will be greatly reduced being put under that kind of strain.

mine is also chipped, same as Chungsters, and mines running the same kind off boost, but its well managed, the turbo is certainly working harder than it did as standard, but it all seems to be managed well, and climbs up the rev band smoothly if a little quicker than before, and the boost is sustained.

Id get it checked out ASAP if this is the case.
