Trying to build up my knowledge of modifications and tuning of my Ibiza Cupra.

My limited knowledge is being expanded by this forum.

thanks to everyone

back to the post

1. How much better are aftermarket suspension kits compared to the CUPRA standard suspension (need i ask !)

Im after a similar ride to the cupra at present (not much harder). but want a bit more confidence going into a corner and high speed.

Am i better off with 16" or 17" alloys.(what would be the diffence)

I also dont want to lower the car to much. how much lower is needed. if i decided to get 17" afterwards will they still fit and would they rub with a full car load.

i have around £600 for the kit.

( i would like the handling similar to the 206 gti if anyone has driven this car. is that possible)

many thanks

There are a couple of threads on this subject ongoign now which might help answer some of your questions. (use the search thing to guide you to them)
That said here's a couple of ideas etc.

1. How Much better are after market kits? Pick one.. Its a minefield out there. Bilstein, Koni, H&R all have quality products in variations to suit wallet and requirement. They pretty much all work better than the stock Cupra suspension.

2. 16" wheels work well IMHO, but the stock 6x16 rims on 195 tyres leave a lot to be desired as a combination. A jittery ride and instability over undulations are quite common. A big improvement in stability, even when retaining the standard wheels can be had by increasing the rear width/track of the car. The rear width is -35mm narrower than the front which leads to a nervous rear. (car not you.. :D) We have supplied many people +20mm spacers for their Ibiza's to counter this, and without exception everyone has been pleased with the stability improvement for such a simple change.

3. Lowering will usually be between 30-40mm and unless running very wide tyres/wheels you should be Ok if you wanted to change to 17's. (7x17, or 7x16 are good size rims)

Hope this helps
enjoy!

Bill

Bill,

Thanks for replying

1. Is this still the case (The spacers are £79.10 inc bolts, vat and carriage)

2. How do i order them ?

3. Are they easy to fit ?

4. Do they act as a cheaper option to wider alloys / tyres (7 x 16)

4. Are they used as an alternative to a uprated suspension or -

5. Can they be used in conjunction with a uprated suspension kit with standard wheels (not rub with full load) ?

many thanks

The prices for the spacers are still correct. Ordering can be by phone and CC or post and cheque which ever is easiest. Contact details on our homepage - http://www.badger5.co.uk
They simply bolt between the wheel and hub, so if you can change a wheel, you can fit the spacers. Easy peasy :)
I think they go a long way to improving the stability and traction for the rear end even with the stock wheel/tyres. So far everyone has been very happy with the improvements gained, and most of them are running stock wheels, some of them also running PSS9 lowered suspension, without rubbing.

My best advise would be to ask the others who have had them for their own opinions of them, and give them a go to see if this is the level of improvement you were looking for. Its a cheaper place to start than full suspension kits.

re spacers.

There is a thread in the ibiza section "longer bolts"

With the spacers are the longer bolts needed ?

if so will it be a 50 mm bolt ?

Where are these bought from / how much ?
