Can anyone tell me if it is possible to change your own car locks (or is it hugely difficult)
My Arosa was nicked recently, but I drove the area and found it hidden behind a block of flats so with the spare key, I pinched it back. However, stupidly there was something in my car with my address on and the tealeafs still have my original car keys. I think I will have problems with the insurance company and the main dealer will charge a fortune.
Can it be done? and can anyone point me in the direction of where I can actually buy the locks
Thanks
Can I just say that 'stealing it back' may have been the wrong thing to do in the eyes of the law......
A quick call to PC Plod saying 'I've located my car' may have been a better idea !!! ;)
but yes - door locks are easy to replace if you have access to teh car
Fit an immbiliser to it & they won't be able to start it (but still gain access)
Remote control fob may still work though.

I agree with you, but I was just trying to summarise the situation. Short version is like this. I was making a delivery, some little scroat nicked my car, I got a lift back to depot, reported it to the police, they said I should have called 999, but they would circulate my details and keep their eyes open. So I took a spare car and went on a search round the local area, trying all the places that the local chavs like to burn cars out in. After 45 mins searching I found it (couldn't beleive it myself). It was parked out back from a block of flats, so could be anybody in there, or possibly not even in there. Rang 999 and they said they would pass the info to the local police but couldn't say if they would come out. Got a couple of guys from the depot to come and sit by it while I got the spare key from home, then went back and waited there for an hour. Eventually gave up drove the car back to the depot and rang the police to say I had reclaimed it, undamaged (cd's and sunglasses nicked) but no keys. They said there wasn't really much they could do. End of story.
But I do agree with you.
So I can replace the locks quite easy then. I presume I can then get the remote central locking recoded to a different signal, and get a new key, so their old key won't open remotely.
Any ideas where in kent I could get new locks.
Thanks
Mark
no probs mate ;)
As for the locks, try "The Motorist Centre" in Biggin Hill, and speak to Ben ;) He's the parts manager of the SEAT Dealership ;)
If you mention the forum (or SeatOwners.co.uk) you may get a discount !!! ;) But don't tell him I said that !!! lol ;)

I dont think it is possible to steal your own property.
Arent the Police amazing!!!!!!Yeah bollocks!!!!
I tell you something,if youd caught one of the little scrots and gave him a clip round the ear the Police would have been there like a flash protecting the scrot again!!!!!!!!!This country is taking the pi55 even more day by day :thumbd:
I hate to ask, but did you leave the keys in it while you were making the delivery? No amount of alarms and imobilisers would help if you did.
If so you were lucky you found it as the insurance company would have just laughed when you made a claim. You're supposed to take reasonable precautions against theft.
