Having been reading various posts on the best chip upgrade I finally decided to take the plunge.
On Saturday installed an Upsolute chip provided by Simon of Upsolute Central UK.
The improvement in performance is excellent and it was well worth the £270 that the chip cost. I would recommend it to anyone considering an upgrade.

What do you mean by switchable one? Do upsolute have a way of turning from normal to chipped mode and so how do you swith modes and how much does it cost?
I actually find it quite easy to swap the chips over now I have done it a few times.
just been checking on the switchable chip from upsolute - 150 euro extra - no details on how its operated
how many uk distributors for upsolute ?
3
- Kent
- Central
- Northern
Simon is northern dealer, based in Sheffield I think.
Have been waiting for first service before getting it fitted, during which the switchable version was released. I believe it allows both chips to stay in the car with some method of switching from one to the other for service purposes.
Don't know how much extra above the normal £280 install price it is.

Hi,
Just thought i'd explain the switchable version, it does indeed allow you to switch between the stock and modified programmes which are held in the new chip. You get a remote transmitter, different to other tuner's systems, but a safe one :).
Simon is the Central rep, based in Sheffield, i'm the northern rep, based in York at the moment.
Glad you like your chip Jamie.
regards,
Jon

Genesis,
For reports on Upsolute go to www.vwvortex.com, and look in the technical, 1.8t forum. Upsolute do a lot of business in the states and are one of the main tuners. The product is well rated as you will see. Also send an IM to Jamie Roberts (above) and ask his impressions of the car’s improvement. The Upsolute website has the figures for each engine available to see on the ‘datasheets’, have a look. A few people on this forum have Upsolute chipped Leons, perhaps they will give you their impressions.
Simon’s number (central rep) is 07957 240822
Kind regards,
Jon

Yup, mines been done for 6 months now. No issues, work carried out by Mike at Impossible in Kent. Performance isn't radically different than before. Throttle response is a lot better and the car is a lot more torquey in the midrange.

Hi Mark,
Apologies if my last post was taken the wrong way. I was NOT implying that there was anything 'unsafe' about other tuners systems!
The UPsolute system allows the program to be changed while the car is turned off, by remote. This prevents the potentially serious situation if a program was changed from stock to modified accidently, during a corner for example. It also has a time limit of around 1/2 hr after ignition off, so that the program can't be changed by accident - for example as you walked to the car in the morning. Plus there is no way that anyone without the remote could change the program, for example if you forgot to lock out the cruise control system which some tuners use. Plus the mod is invisible to the dealer - unless of course they open the ECU - but that is the same for any chip mod.
Hope that explains it.
Regards,
Jon
