Hey Folks, have been reading the posts for a while now, and am on my second seat, first was a 1.4 ibiza and now have a late '99 2.0 sx cordoba...anyways, a few questions,
1. I was wondering if anyone else feels that the 2.0 sx/tdi cable driven gearbox is a bit weak/clumsy, i mean this because when accelerating from stop, by the time i get to 40 in first i go to change into 2nd and 50-70% of the time i have to have two goes at getting it, really silly looking if racing!!
2. really stupid question, but where is the geabox fluid reservoir, someone told me that the motor oil keeps the gears happy?
3. Ive had mine lowered the usual 40mm on pi springs and went to my usual bits suppliers and they told me that the standard shocks in my sx are already gas?confused:
4. One last question, Im getting rid of my 16" standard alu multi spoke alloys, legal tyres, just, 2 yokos front and 2 michi's back, what sort of money should i be looking and does anyone want to buy them, got 1 Kosei seneka sport 15" alloy (no tyre also..Brand Spanking, still in plastic bag!)
enuff of me , how you doin???? http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/eek.gif :

The gearbox in my SX is a bit pants to be honest. But I don't have trouble getting it in gear, it's just a bit notchy and unprecise. You soon get used to it though. Also let me know how much you want for the wheels, if they're mint I might be interested....

I also have a 2.0 sx cordoba, and have exactly the same problem with my gearbox, I thought it may be knackered, but if you're getting the same problem it can't be. My car has done 48K and my parents have an identical one with only 20K on the clock and the gear change on theirs is a lot smoother, could it be linkage wear?

your boxes are the same linkage as in the golf/maestro i think . I'll look into as i had a blueprint for modifying it to quickchange (1/2 length changing) somewhere in the shed http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/tongue.gif I'm off to clear the shed http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/tongue.gif
ps BADGER you got anything like that lying around ????? http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

I can take a photo of the linkage reduction kit I have. It is easily reproducable by drilling a hole lower down. I'll post the picture.
Question> Do the Seats have the weighted shift rod like the MK3's? If not, I would reccommend one as they really help the smoothness of the shifting between gears.

the alloys are good condition, im having my front passenger sorted after a very slight kerb incident involving a granny who thought she was driving up a one way country lane (i wasnt speeding because i know these people use that wee road a lot, anyway, no real damage done, they might need a fresh coat of paint because of the odd stone marking, i was thinking about 300-350 mark, someone tell me if im wrong!! still need to find out from someone if i pour the gear lube straight into the ole covered by the rubberbung beside gear selector on engine/box.....please help, cause i think thats what is causing my misery on shifting up, btw third gear chews a bit when pushing too, fourth is ok, also fifth gets stodgey about half way into gear and if not pushed all the way in, it has come back out twice!!

You're not talking a green plug on the top of the bell housing are you? Don't pour oil down there, it will ruin your clutch. The little black plastic cap on the top of the rod change input is a breather...

There is a large hex drive plug on the outer casting (nearest the inner wheel arch) This is the fill plug. However, its a bugger to fill through. I have removed the speedo cable before to top up through there, and that was much easier.
