View Full Version : Turbochargers for the mkII ibiza

Hi all,
I have looked around but I can't find any reference to turbochargers that can be fitted to the mark 2 Seat Ibiza Gti 16V, does anyone know if this is possible?

On a different topic, I think the heatshield/downpipe is responsible for the very annoying rattling I get from the front of my car, but this doesn't seem to be a cheap thing to fix. Has anyone refitted these with non-standard seat parts, and does this get rid of the problem??

try contacting a specialist such as Stealth Racing Near Banbury

I know someone was looking into supercharging one of these engines, but don't know whether he bit the bullet or not. Whatever, just about anything is possible if you speak to the right people, but be warned that it's likely to end up being quite bespoke and that'll mean expensive...

As for the heatshield, the one over the cat has a tendency to shake itself loose on mk2's - a little tack weld repair is usually all that is required to fix this.

He didn't in the end G - basically realised for the amount of money he'd spend it wasn't worth the hassle.

Im still looking into G60'ing mine and have a person lined up to do it but want to get everything else sorted on the car first. Which ever way you go its gonna hurt the bank account. :(

Force One Superchargers in Bridgwater, Somerset are currently working on a 2.0 16v Ibiza. They were aiming to get 280-300 bhp and last time I went in they were expecting to finish it round about the end of this week.

It will be mighty expense though, but if you're interested, the number's 44 (0)1278 445507.

neil, you think they would do something a little less powerful, say 220-240, if so do you think it would still be as expensive?
Not doing any mods to my car for a wee while as i got a bit of an ultimatum from my bank manager!!!!

Yes, but it's still expensive. They reckoned about 4000 pounds for a basic conversion giving about 250bhp.

That's what I think they said anyway, but it was at least two months ago when I was enquiring, maybe 3.

Actually, I've just noticed they've changed their website and have an Ibiza listed as a car they'll do. Check it out then give them a call. http://www.force-one.co.uk/

Hi Neil

Hows your throttle body conversion going ? Grant was telling me at GTI International it was in having the work done.

Cheers

Hi Rob,

I'm afraid it wasn't! It's still just head and cams at the moment, with lumpy tickover and rattly exhaust.

Maybe sometime soon...

Sorry I didn't reply to your post just after you spoke to Grant on the phone. I was trying to find the right words to put and then I forgot all about it! It's quite embarassing being associated with him when he starts coming out with s**t like he did, and I had a good moan about him on the Club GTi forum, about the way he never calls me when he says he will.

Speak soon,

Neil P

LOL. There's no disputing the figures, both before and after mods, and we both got +37BHP with the DTH TB's so its further confirmation of their effectiveness. I'm also pretty pleased with the Blyton sprint results (6th / 25) and Curborough (30.5secs - should also be approx 6th / 35 I think). So seems they are working on the track also. Now I just need to drive faster....

Cheers

I got a 30.07 apparently.. P4 in the end. DOH!
Need a quiafe so badly... spinning all that traction and time away.
Also need to be able to stop the blummin thing. ABS disabled was only a bodge really. Got 50pence shaped rear tyres now... drives like rurururururururu wheel bearing type noise now. Not too bad, but the tyres are flat spotted on the back from the rears locking so much.

Got some ideas now to try and fix this. Too much dive on the front end I think, (springs), combined with a very light rear end, and its ABS triggering prematurely. Hence crap stopping ability.
So long as the rears trigger the ABS into working early, I cannot see the fronts being used to their capacity.

Well done on your times mate.
I'll have to bring me Jetta next time.

regards
Bill

I have no ABS on my car but still the rears locked occasionally (but not too bad)- I think because as you say the rear is light cf. the front but also because curborough being a tight track means you have to brake in the turns with one or other rear wheel even more unloaded than usual. This then locks. Stronger front springs may help but as this effect is very transitional, perhaps just stronger front slow speed damping. At Donnington for eg. I was breaking much harder than curborough but in a straight line and no rear lockup (and rears working well - blue rear disks !). Only way to solve this in my mind is to have adjustable bias - sometimes you need rear braking and others not.

Are you sure your Jetta is much quicker than the Ibiza at Curborough ? The times look pretty similar to me:

Curborough:
June 1999 29.97 (Jetta)
June 2000 30.09 (Jetta)
June 2002 30.07 (Ibiza)
Blyton:
Oct 1999 1,10.67 (Jetta)
April 2000 1,10.42 (Jetta)
Oct 2000 1,12.56 (Jetta)
April 2002 1,08.73 (Ibiza)

- the ibiza has much more potential though. Dont be too hard on the old girl.

Cheers

Rob

Do ABS cars have the 'automatic' brake bias valve on the rear axle? You have to adjust it when lowering the car, otherwise it acts as if the car is fully laden and applies more bias to the rear brakes. Suppose I should get underneath my car and have a look but it's dark now! ;)

Just a thought.

The times back then had a chicane 1/2 way down where we had the straight this time. The Jetta's the quicker car at the moment. Well its stops when I want it to, turns when I want it to, and grips through corners when I want it to. It lacks the torque out of the corners tho compared to the beezer. I brought the beezer out, as I have never had times for it and was interested to see how it compared. Its getting there.. slowly but surely. :D

Nope! :(
thats why they lock.
As its got ABS, that's supposed to sort things out. Rear end is too light and over braked. Not a balanced system. Working on it tho.

Bias valve for rears in now also on the cards...
Sensible road car eh? I've lost the plot now :D
