Hi guys,

I have just gotten hold of a radar/laser detector and think it's *really* good.

It detects our local live gatso no prob, surprising how many are duds actually.

Does anyone know what bands and frequencies the different types of speed trap things use?

check out the bel at :
http://www.beldirect.co.uk/bel550.htm

ta,
Matt.

The bands that are used in britain are K, KA and laser but can't rember off hand if Ku is being used. My hint for you is to turn of X band as every shop door and set of traffic lites will have it going mental and totaly pi**ing you off. There's a site called the speed trap bible but not got the address for it and it'll inform you of every thing you know.

Happy camera dodging

I have got the exact model too.. (Lee I cannot believe you haven't gotten one of htese yet!). They are definately worth getting...especially down Motorway roadworks late at night in a car that does 100mph very quietly without you even noticing the speed officer http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

The frequency bands are listed when the unit starts up..something like 24.5MHz...

I've been looking at these too and.....whisper this.......there is a group buy going on at the scoobynet bbs site (bbs.scoobynet.co.uk). You can get the 550 Euro for £320 all in, I think. Do a search for 'group buy' or 'bell 550' and you should see the posts.

Did anyone get flashed at by the blue box coming out of Silverstone after Trax? I did http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif. Saw the bloody thing on the way in and made a mental note. Must have been set very close to the roads limit cos I wan't going that fast. Still I think I've got caught - tuff shit Deano!

Bad luck on the camera flash http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

Go get a detector http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif I think the Bel unit is the only one that can detect the mini-gatso so is well worth getting. There are some pretty cool reviews of the 550 and 990 (the 550 is better apparently).

It detected a radar from 7 miles away in once instance, and repeated it three times http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

I went past a blue box going towards Silverstone on the A43. I don't think it flashed but it was a forward facing one. Do these still flash? Just waiting for the letter in the post because I went past at 80. At least the two scoobies I was chaseing will have got done too.... http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

Yup Pete forward facing blue boxes (different to gatso's), bad luck mate. There was one each side of the road going to Silverstone. These use three stips on the road to measure your speed and not lasers.

They are supposed to use infra red and not actually flash but the one going out of Silverstone (travelling south towards Oxford) definately flashed at me (only doing 50mph) http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

Just bought a Morpheus Goedesy for £330 via an EVO forum group buy (£50 saved on rrp).

It's supplied by Demon Tweeks through a chap called Neil Pridding. He's got one left (after I bagged mine, or so he says) so be quick. His telephone number is 01978 663068, and his e-mail is NeilP@demon-tweeks.co.uk. Don't call Demon Tweeks themselves cos you'll still pay the usual £380.

May be useful to someone...hope it is, it's the only thing that should warn against the Tru Velo that got me outside Silverstone.

Cheers,

He's who I got my Geodesy from, same deal.
And your right - the blue Truvelos will not be picked up by a normal radar detector - only by a Geodesy with its database of all static traps. Mine works great, the only thing is it won't pick up temporary or handheld laser or radar traps/guns, the only way to cover yourself completely is to have a Bell 550 AND a Geodesy!
I know - its a lot of money....

Aahh we're talking about a different road then mate.... I'm just hoping that they aren't set too low. It's a dual carrageway so 70 and I was doing 80.... I'll just have to wait and see if the letter comes in the post in the next 14 days...... http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/frown.gif

Dean,

What do these blue cameras look like? I don't think I've had the misfortune to see one. The only thing I can think of that are blue are the Travelmaster sensor things...

Don't suppose you can point me towards any piccies?

Cheers
Andy

Have a look at the Speed Trap Bible (http://www.brakehorsepower.com/speedtrap/speedtrap_bible.html) as there are pictures of just about everything on there.
(edit: there's also a link in the left-hand menu on the main site)

I like the forward facing cameras - they're great on the bike as you can wave at them as you wheelie past - bikes don't have number plates at the front http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

Andy,

Take a look at this link for info on different trap equipment and the TruVelo Combi S (http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/Accused_Home/Gadgets/Gadgets_Home.htm) that may have had me (no letter yet).

Also take a look at the Tru Velo forward facing (http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/gatso09.htm) camera.

Petrolhead Pete,
I wasn't going to buy anything but my paranoia and my credit limit got the better of me http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif . Thought about the Bell Euro but when you drive in an area your not familiar with, the geodesy has to be the one to go for.

I think you've been snoozing mate. There are two pairs of the SPECS cameras in use here in Gloucester. (Tuffley Avenue and Podsmead Road). They are video cameras that check your speed over a given distance. Not only do they take a shot of the car they get the driver as well so there can be none of that "It wasn't me driving officer, I don't know who was, it's a company/pool car" type situations.
