Dropped in Swindon Seat this morning and used my charms  to get them to take of the red cover

Sat inside and it felt very cosy

Not sure what model it was but looks stunning in black and dark burgundy trim

One thing that stuck out was the middle consol, think that will have to grow on me and he alloys were kak

Was told FR will be out in December at around £16500 followed by the Cupra at £18000

FR will be 2 litre putting out 185 BHP :( and the Cupra 240-250BHP

For you Sooty fans 2.0ltr putting out 170BHP

That's what they told me

Plonked my Cupra right by the window so they could see I was genuinally (sp) intersted !!

Isn't the sport 2.0TFSi doing 185bhp?

I'd guess more likely the FR will be the 'full' 200 with a cupra coming with a bit more, but maybe from a lame V6 rather than a Tubby

If the new Cupra is that BHP i might have alook in Seat tonight

(they have one under wraps too)

Did it have one of those sh1tey stereo's that look incredibly difficult to change for an aftermarket one (like the Altea on / big and oddly shaped)? I hope someone brings out a bracket to convert it to standard single din.

Jonesy

Yes nastly centre consol

about the FR, maybe the guy was on about the sport at 185BHP as mOrk says as I too thought that was naff as its only 5 BHP increase

Had a call from a lady at Seat UK regarding an e-mail I sent re the Leon FR & Cupra. She states that the FR will be available from Jan 06 with 200bhp. Cupra version to follow later with 240bhp
Couldnt get any idea of a price for the FR but guessing to be around 17 - 18K based on whats available now.
MY02 Cupra going back next month with 140,000 on the clock. Went to Barlows in Wolverhampton and sat in the showroom model they have there. Its a TD in black (I think its the Reference Sport) and looks a LOT better in the flesh than any photos :)
Temporary car from next month is a 1.8T Bora :( and trying to hang on for new company car until the FR is available.

Not too far away from what Swindon Seat said then, or are they all just guessing

Could be theyve all been told the same by Seat although the lady I spoke to was Seat HQ.

I know what you mean too about the alloys on the models they are putting in the showroom...they are totally :censored: At least they have Bridgestones fitted which means I can order one as a company car  With a little luck they may put similar wheels onto the new FR as they fit to the current one.

Sorry, never asked about Diseasel as I'm only looking for petrol version. Would assume they will bring out around the same time as petrol but with Seat.......who knows?

jonesy ive been reliably informed that there is no burgundy in the new leon dash, i sat in one today also and have to admit its actually nicer in the flesh. very streamlined, yay a new shape seat that i actually like. the advert for it is also better than the toledo one etc.

The new stereo is pre bluetooth enabled. I sat in one today...quite nice i thought. They are trying to get SEAT to allow me to drive one down to Silverstone on the 18th Sept :):)

Brendy, not on the dash it was in the door panels, I too felt it was very cosy inside and the one I sat in had a really chunky steering wheel which was also very nice

Well - I went 'by invite' to Motorvogue in Northampton

Nobody spoke to me (I had a camera under my arm) - the food that was offered looked like it'd been there all day, and the 'free' carwash was nowhere to be seen (I guess someone needed to speak to you to offer it)

Anyway - I knew they'd be crap as a dealer.

The Car:

Looks good in the flesh, all good shutlines, and looks nice (needs some pimp rims though)

Sports seats were ace, really supportive for me. The Poverty spec model seats were really bad.

The Pov. model was a real plastic fantastic - but you can't have your cake & eat it.

Interior on the Sport was better, it was all together etc, but the quality of materials was not up there - it looked like the handbrake console was made of the same plastic my 1984 Nissan Micra had on the dash

I have great expectations of the FR & Cupra Models now.

The boot is massive though, very tall - but no spare wheel that I could see.

acres of room underneath, begging for a driveshaft.

ZBOYD

So there is no spare wheel. Is it not law now to carry a spare wheel. Looking at the price list they want £35 for a space saver wheel.

Seems positevely stingey to be honest.

m0rk
27-08-2005, 16:49
they would have been better off making it a square hole then - that way you could fit something other than their polystyrene filler in there.

Loads of cars do not come with spares. RX8 for example.

Charging for a spare was an old mg rover trick. I believe that if you call out the AA because you have a puncture, there is a cost which will be levied, as you have not taken all the precuations to avoid breaking down.

Sat in a TDI sport today. Wow - I loved it. (new car smell is always a bonus as well) ;)

I love the low profile windows, the seats, the trim.... yummy. Looks even better in the flesh when cleaned up (I firstly saw them unprepped). Black is deffo the colour, even though the sweep line is lost a bit.

I don't know how I'm going to manage the long wait until the Cupra... :help:

Just dropped the LC off for service and the stealer allowed to me to have a root around their New Leon out the back. Parked alongside an Altea so easy to compare them.

Have to agree with the general view certainly much much better in the flesh than in pics. The rear door handle in the glass treatment is certainly distinctive and it looked good from all angles EXCEPT ......... the front.

I stand by my initial impressions when I first saw photos on here. It does look like a squashed Altea when viewed head on.

I know it's a corporate nose thing, but I for one would want a fellow petrol head at least to recognise it as a Cupra or an FR when it starts to loom in their rear view mirror
If they can't tell it from the people mover part of the point of having a flash motor is gone isn't it ?

At least the central grill could easily be given the honeycomb treatment and with a differently shaped front splitter it could be improved, but at the moment still too much like Barbra Streisland!!!!!

I see from the brochures etc that the Leon comes with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System to let you know you have a tyre at low psi. Wonder if Seat are going the same way as BMW and heading towards fitting Runflat tyres? :thumbd:

Assume that the Leon will be the same as the RX8/Mini and have an emergency tyre repair kit in the boot in lieu of a spare?

Per the brochure, the Leon comes with an emergency tyre repair kit and as you say, the Leon comes with a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Extremely predictable and consistent with the Audi A3, which offers the same kit and does not run 'runflat' tyres.

I have no idea whether Audi and VW will follow BMW but Seat will follow a couple of years behind Audi and VW (no doubt at a cheaper price!)

Paulie
30-08-2005, 16:27
I hope they dont fit Runflats as both handling and ride quality is compromised to some degree with these tyres unless the suspension is modified to take them into account.

Early BM's with RFTs were slated for ride quality as they fitted both std and RFT tyres with the same suspension setup. New 3 series is fine on RFT's due to the fact that RFT is standard fitment and the suspension is set up with this in mind.

RFT tyres are more expensive than std tyres and can be a pain in the :censored: to fit - I know from firsthand experience as Ive spent the last 3 years running the RFT training programme for Bridgestone.
