Have just competed 1900 miles to the French Alps at an indicated overall 41.3mpg in our '04 TDi 130.
This doesn't sound a lot and on the first 500mile leg, we achieved 46. Once in the Alps, it's a bit hilly (I like understatement!), and there were times when I might do 10 miles at 19mpg - all up hill!
The only bummer has been removing what felt like the entire population of French insects from the front after our return
