Hi,
Posted this in the Ibiza forum when it prolly should've gone here....
I've had my 16v Cupra for a few months now and am wondering the about the best way to go about upping the power. I have about £600 to spend initially and so was thinking along the lines of fillter, miltek exhaust and an ecu remap. Was also considering flowed head/fast road cam, but would have to wait for funds to be available for this.
Am I thinking along the right lines or are there other avenues I should be considering? What power gains can I expect to achieve from the above and are the gains worthy of the costs? I guess I don't want to go the filter/exhaust/ecu route and later get the head flowed as this'll require another ecu remap.
Cheers
steve
Head first as it will make the most difference, performance exhausts make little real world difference.
1)Head,
2)lightened flywheel (£100 ish)
3)remap.
exhausts and filters make little real world difference, although the Hurricane looks good, don't know if its a 16v fitment though
read all the articles on pumaracing website first.

Hurricane isn't avialable for the 16v Cupra as far as I know - but other people will know more (Bill?).
On the subject of fly wheel, how is torque at low revs with lighter flywheel? For some reason I thought lighter flywheel gives a more lumpy idle? I get the idea about reducing recipcrocating mass, but you're coupling the output shaft of the engine to a gearbox ! How much difference can it make?
was lead to believe lightend flyweels enable the engine to rev up quicker, not sure if this affects power or torque in anyway, just less mass to spin so easier and quicker, bill will set us right as he has done this to his new vr6 flywheel fitted to his 20vt:cheers:

No more power, just faster responce from engine.

Lightening the flywheel will not affect torque as such but it will affect the smoothness of the engine and its tendancy to stall if a bit wooley down low (like if hot cams are fitted). The mass of the flywheel will tend to keep the engine running - momentum. It will of course affect the pickup speed of the engine also.

It will slightly reduce the load the engine has to accelerate and as such more power is available for actually moving the car. Vizard said something like 1lb off the flywheel in 1st gear is the same as 100lbs off the weight of the car. So the difference is only like carrying your girlfriend in the car, But cheap all the same.

bill has had wayy more than one pound taken off his jetta flywheel, so i wonder how much of a difference that made.

Jetta has stock flywheel.
Ibiza has lightened VR6 flywheel... Correction 9lbs weight removed off it not 19lb's as I first said.... Misread the writing. Oops!

Getting one from Grant motorsport £70 exchange I think so I'll let u know what difference it makes. The Vizard figures are for very low gearing, as you pull higher gears it makes less and less difference, but every thing helps. Made a big difference on my minis tho!
Visit http://www.ClubABF.fr.st , you will find everything about ABF 2.0 16V cars...and some nice engine upgrades

First off, I would avoid the Milltek exhaust on the 2.0 16V Ibiza, it was very boomy when cruising at 70-80mph on the motorway, does become a big pain on longer trips.
Nothing against Milltek, I have one on my 20VT and its very quiet but the 16V is fussy on exhausts in that 3000-4000rpm band.
I would go for a Remus or Supersprint back box personally, good balance between not being boomy but having a nice howl at high rpm.
Also had a Pipercross induction kit and AmD chip on mine, beyond that you've got to start spending pretty serious money to get worthwhile gains, as the people above will tell you.
Its a peaky engine anyway, I wouldn't bother with cams unless you go the whole hog and fit throttle bodies, then its big power.
P.S. Run it on 97 or 98 octane petrol, they prefer it IMO and mpg seemed better so it pays for itself.
