Hello all

I hope to be getting a new Leon cupra r in the near future at the moment I use Meg products which I have been getting very good results but I fancy a change when the new car arrives.

Can You steer me in the right direction regarding Zymol products.

1 been a new car would I do any damage to the paint work using the HD cleaner before applying the wax/glaze

2 Is it a must to apply the HD cleanse before applying wax and does this have to be done every time I wax the car I am thinking of using Zymol concours glaze.

3 Has anybody used Zymol concours glaze and if so what are the results like.

one other thing I am a newbie to this forum and I would just like to say that it is fantastic :worship:

Simple answer, save your money and buy something just as good if not better - P21S or Poorboy's Natty's wax give awesome results and both are less than £20.

Optimum Spray Wax is a truly outstanding product too - sealant and carnauba wax in one easy to use spray - costs a whopping £10.95!!!

Hi SkyWalker

if its a brand new car then I would not use a polishing compound in any form be it P21S Gloss Enhancing Paintwork Cleanser or Zymol HD-Cleanse or any other (eg Autogylm Resin) - your paint will simply be too soft and you risk damaging the paintwork (fine swirlmarks) if you apply it so early. I would probably recommend that you wait at least 3-6 months prior to applying a polisher as a base for the wax. However the alternative for a good clean and base is either Klasse AIO or CarLack 68 (from what I've found out recently Klasse is basically rebadged CarLack 68 by the US distributor) which is a non abrasive polisher and an acrylic sealer. The acrylic sealing will be helpful as winter is on its way and you want some increased protection against typical winter contaminants such as salt/grit. CarLack 68 is pretty hard to find in the UK and Klasse AIO (All in One) can be imported from the US or you can pay horrendeous charges for it in the UK. Good news though is that I've been offered the CarLack 68 UK Distributorship so I will be able to get the stuff in pretty cheap once its been thrashed out, woohoo! :D

For a dark grey car I can strongly recommend Zymol Carbon that has been designed for darker coloured cars including colours from black to grey. Its hard to work with though if you are new to this sort of thing, you need to apply it by hand and it must be applied in fairly warm conditions whereas a carnauba paste wax such as P21S can be applied very very easy, and its just as easy to take off.

There are two others called Zymol Ebony (black cars) and Zymol Rouge (red cars), however I would not recommend that these items are used as the technology behind them is over a decade old. They were specifically made for a company in Beverly Hills that went bust in 1998 and lets just say there is quite a bit of surplus stock that they need to get rid.

Finally, I'm currently in the middle of a few articles on the recommended (in our experience of course) ways of applying polish, wax, 'tarting up' and finally getting that wet look shine. Four of them are done and we have another 5-6 to do; they would have been finished earlier but a certain company has been waving a big stick at us and we've been frantically changing the website these past few weeks hence the reason I have not been around as much i wanted to!

Best Regards,

Mark

I would like to thank You Mark for Your advice GOD You no Your stuff
I have always been a keen detailer but never used a wax which I would apply with My hands the colour of the car is basically silver but Seat call it Luna grey.

This may be a daft  question but when You apply the wax and say You wax roughly every fortnight should You take the old wax of the paint work first if using say Zymol or P21s carnauba.

Regards Darren

or one other thing I have never used a electric buffer before do You recommend them over say a good quality microfibre towel.

Oh silver, sorry - Creame it should be then or P21S. P21S is applied using a sponge applicator that is supplied within the jar. Very easy to apply and very easy to take off. As for removing layers of waxes, for best effect I would advise you build up your layers of wax to increase that depth of shine. After about 3-4 months I would then recommend that you remove the wax using a low abrasive polisher such as HD-Cleanse or P21s GEPC or a non abrasive polisher and acrylic sealer such as Klasse AIO or CarLack 68(neither of which I sell but I'm working on it). The reason for this is that the wax layers would have absorbed enough contaminants that have a chance of penetrating the layer(s) and adhering to the paintwork. Also of course the contaminants may dull the wax which at that point you are applying wax onto a dull base.

Acrylic sealers are very useful especially now that winter is heading our way, councils love to grit the roads with salt so you need all the protection you can get your hands on. :)

Finally, microfibre or RO polishers? My preference is to use the Microfibre route as I feel I have better control over what I am doing. RO polishers are perfect however for heavy swirling where you can use them with a medium cut pad and a low/med abrasive polishing compound. For pure waxing however I would go microfibre all the way.

There are quite few knowledgable people on this forum when it comes to detailing so ask about, there are always different viewpoints. :)

Skywalker.

I have a Luna grey car and have used a few different waxes and polishes.

For the first month or so I was using Megs Gold class topped with Turtle wax Gloss Guard.

After that I went onto using P21S just on its own as it was easy to put on and take off. It was like rubbing lard on the paint due to its consistancy.

I am now using Poorboys professional polish, then EX Sealant, then topped with Megs NXT or P21S. I apply both using a machine and megs polishing and finishing pads.

There are so many products out there and also a MASSIVE thread on here about what to use and how to use it.

Here is a link to the thread. The guy who started it really knows his stuff.

I have some pics of mine after different waxes if you want to see them?

I liked the shine of the Megs Tech wax........but I use the P21S more as its so easy to apply and remove. The wet shine it gives is really good.

Just joined the forum as I found the threads on car polishing very interesting. Glad to hear the CupraR could soon be on order and I wait to see how the new polish turns out.
