guys
i noticed on a previous thread that all you cupra owners have red "seat sport" brake calipers front and back as standard.
I how ever dont!! the most likely reason is that my cupra is mexican, but i have taken some pics and posted them down below and was wondering if you guys could tell me is they are the same spec as yours, i.e. dimensions and braking power.
if it is a case of that they are different then im going to get me some new ones!!!
cheers guys

These look like the standard VAG 312mm calipers.....

These are the AP 312mm 4 pot calipers (smaller caliper is the Brembo 312mm)

Yep you've got the same 312mm discs/calipers as fitted to the Audi TT, S3, Leon Cupra, and Octavia VRS...
Not the Seat Sport setup fitted to UK Cupras :(

muddyboots

Well they are the same diameter at 312mm, so you might be in luck - sure someone else will confirm though !

The pics on my site are of the originals, 288mm IIRC.
Haven't got any decent ones of the 312mm setup yet....

If mine are anything to go buy Mexicupra, I'd have to say keep the ones you have. It may not be the fault of the calipers but I've known better stopping power on bog Astra diesel.

Grey fox,

I think at low speeds you have to use a lot of pedal to get the car to stop quickly.
What i have found is that they come into there own when you need to stop quickly at high speeds.

I travel from the Birmingham (Airport / NEC) down to Tewkesbury M5, J9 everyday and quite often due to other c*cks on the road have to do some sharp braking.......

Tis true, they do stop you well enough. I think it's just the feel doesn't inspire confidence. I was expecting more from the swanky looking 'Seat Sport' versions.

<I get on the M5 at J9 somedays, I've seen a black one wooshing round a couple of times>

Did you get your Cupra from Amethyst?

Grey Fox

Sure did. Taking Coop to work on Friday (hopefully have a go at the REVO trial - weather permitting) via M50, I'll keep an eye out for ya.

I didn't think you could get the REVO trial on the diesel?
What colour is your Cupra?

what do you think of Amethyst/ I had my first service with them, seemed ok....

Badger 5 do REVO and they are based in Stroud

In all honesty, I have driven my old PD130 with a 312mm conversion, as mexicupra has, and my mum's PD160 with the SEAT Sport setup.

I actually found my setup better, probably it had decent fluid in it. Even now, I still don't justify Brembos or SEAT Sport calipers, because the 312mm setup I have is more than good enough.

Free trial doesn't apply to diesels due to there being insufficient space on the ECU. But they do offer a 30 day money back guarantee ;) Not that you'll need it

:( Oh bugger, I didn't know that. That's a shame as I wanted to feel the benefits and mainly find out how much more black stuff it chucks out, before I shell out 500 smackers.

Good job I mentioned it.

Appologies for going off-topic mexicupra.

id honestly go for brembo upgrades if you going to, IMO i drove a mk4 with SS brakes, and didnt find them that great, then drove a mk3 cupra R and the brembo's shone :)

mmmmmmm thanks guys, after reading all comments im still not sure if i should do it! however if someone can give me a part number then ill pop to my dealer and see how easy it would be for them to get hold of them.......cos they may just simply tell me that they cant get them, therefor problem solved

Well i just bought my 2006 ibiza cupra and i saw that in Europe sport brakes are optional but not in Mexico.

I called VW customer service and i asked if they could get me those kind of brakes and they just said "no sir i'm sorry, those kind of products are not for sale in Mexico but if you really want them would be very expensive, maybe over 3,000 USD for you"

My God!

The lack of peddal feel and long travel could be down to the seat sport being 4pots so you need to displace more fluid than with the 2 pot TT ones. (This may not be the case as I don't know the diamiters of the cylinders) but you could try looking for a larger diamiter master cylinder this would reduse pedal travel but require more force to be aplied to the pedal to acheave the same force at the wheel you get with a smaller piston and more travel. Fitting 22mm master cylinders to G40s is a common "upgrade" for that reason, you don't actualy stop quicker but you get a more positive feel from the pedal.

Hey hello, please spare those part numbers i'd like to get rid of my standard brakes and upgrade on thos seat sport brembo brakes.

For mexicupra, it seems that here in Mexico VW does not import them as a costumer option, i already asked them by phone and they told me that if i really want them i would have to pay over 2,500USD for them.

So, i was thinking if we could have the correct measurements for the 312mm frons and 288mm rear discs and also the kind of brembo caliper model and get them directly from ebay.

Does anyone knows the right tech measurements for replacing them?

I was thinking that maybe a porsche 911 brembo would fit on, what you think?
