look ladies and gentlemen it is very simple, stop being idiots and post what you want by the rules of the forum, read them first and abide by them, plain and simple,i have deleted posts for cars for sale in excess of 10 thousand pounds, just because you haven't put any contact information,a nod and wink smilie does nothing i'm afraid,i do not make the rules, they have been set by m0rk and zboyd(or zboyd and m0rk)
would you sell your house without any info to an estate agent?would you e-bay anything without any kind on proper contact info?
re-read the rules as per cupranet and please stop me deleting ads.
thank you

Surley contacting by pm is enough? then email address etc can be given to those who are serious. that way theres no chance of any spam mailers, malicious email mail senders to take advantage

m0rk

it's not because of that.

The reason is because Zboyd & I got 'a lot' of emails from guests & n00bs who can't PM

'please can you email xyz about his dildo that I want to buy, but he's left no contact information'

I mean - this is OK once in a while, but when you're talking of 10-15 a day it's a pain in the ass just ignoring & deleting them, let alone helping them out.

Maybe just me on this one, but I see it as rules are rules, if you don't like em then :runaway: .....

Just my opinion...

I hear xyz's dildos are sooooperb though. So the girls in the office tell me anyway.

FWIW I agree. If someone provides a free service for you to advertise something the least you can do is format that free ad the way they want it, even if they want your inside leg measurement, the age of your great, great grandmother on the paternal side and to know what you had for dinner 3 weeks past Tuesday. As it stands the rules here are all the way they are for good reason so nobody should have a problem with it.

Personally if I was selling a car on here I'd create a dedicated email address for the sale - I've done it in the past and had it mail out a document with pics and spec automatically. That way you don't need to type your email addy. Alternatively you could allow email in your profile and so give the facility with a button without publishing the addy on the internet, or you could use some anti-spam measure in the address such as name[AT]isp.com or name@[NoSpam]isp.com. Anyone who can't cope with that probably can't operate a phone/find you/be trusted out on their own so won't buy whatever you have for sale anyway.

Personally if I was selling a car on here I'd create a dedicated email address for the sale -

I did that, had a yahoo account set up for things like this and there is a function on Yahoo accounts that allows it to forward mail to another account. I had the yahoo account foward mail to my main personal address, when the job is done, simply switch off the forwarding function!

I recently put up a for sale ad, stuck to the rules and it was never approved.

I did read the rules though, provided contact info etc.

just a note - make the ads as idiot proof as possible

i/you/cats mother may know you can click the avatar and send pm/email etc but joe bloggs who registered 2 mins ago may not i'm afraid

if you are worried about scammers taking address off site etc simply make it a link?

CLICK TO EMAIL FOR INFO (******@seatcupra.net) :mobile:

copy the above if needed and edit name - or use the email link button when posting

it saves a lot of time/hassle and helps the Net Virgins buy your worldy goods

If they are all too dumb to read and understand the rules to start with why does Jason, Mark and ZBOYD bother to keep on trying to explain their actions.
Surely you boys have better things to do.

This sort of thing justifys eugenics in my opinion.

P.s mOrk isn't being a donor its just a scam to get away from all the idiots for a week or so fair play Mark.

I've got a question.

I just posted a for sale ad and completely forgot about putting contact details on it. Now i can't see or find the thread to edit it coz its hidden pending approval.

Whats gonna happen with that?

All i want to add is my email address.

The only issue I have with the rules is the bit about everything having to have a price.

Like all my stuff from the Cordy, I have no idea what any of it's worth, but I had to put prices on some of it which might be well over priced

But it's in the rules so people should stop wingeing about it ;)

You can always put a guide price, but add i will accept offers. (ono)

Then its in the buyers court ;)

Dormouse
15-11-2005, 12:44
Yer, agree, its a plain not seeing a price or a decent description.

Maybe a script that pops up when you create a new thread? Basically warns to enter appropraite details or it will be deleted.

i used to 'look after' the For Sale section (amongst others ) on T'other side..... and i AGREE that its a right royal pain in the arse at times having to answer all these benign questions from some dicko whos virtually computor illiterate there are rules set , so if your TOO stupid to read them or just plain old CANT BE ARSED... then WHY SHOULD who-ever it is on here that 'mods' that section be arsed ???? ..............

RIGHT......... CARRY ON...;)

Further query regarding the having a price bit. If I had something that had no personal value, but to someone else (thinking eBay) it might be worth say £15, could we not get away with £ offers/open to offers. Because if I put a guide price for example, as it was considered too high, even putting "open to offers" would put people off as they would think I wanted close to the price quoted. When in fact, I'd even accept £5, but would rather try and get more for it.

It is swings and roundabouts. Personally, if an ad didn't have any form of price acknowledgement - by that I mean the advertiser failing to put the words offers/open to offers, £ offers etc then yes - bin it. But with actually stating those words, you are in effect saying I am literally open to offers (not literally, in the literal sense mind - I'm married!)

I won't argue the rules, because at the end of the day, no rules= chaos. But, I'd be interested to know the feelings on the scenario above.

I'll setup a 'free/beer money' section then....

no doubt all the stupid people will post their cars in there.

Goot
25-11-2005, 17:10
Wouldn't have another section personally, just an addition to the rule stating all adverts must include a price OR say open to offers. If it doesn't, decline it.

But if someone does have a min price or a price range then this HAS to be stated, because this equates to I'll accept offers betwenn £x and £y.

If I've got some computer stuff I'd like to sell, last time, didn't get many replies, and this was advertised on SCN and a few mailing lists. When I changed the price to £offers- all of a sudden there was interest and I actually got more than the original asking price.

I think this is the fairest option? A lot of places will accept a price, offers, and/or price range. Most decline if nothing stated to that effect.

Make sense? :)

What you're saying makes sense, but at the end of the day it's a free service that is being provided and the rules have to be adhered to. By all means specify that you're willing to listen to offers, but at present at least a guide price must be stated.

Goot
25-11-2005, 17:24
eg. Epson Stylus Color 600 Printer £ offers
To me it's worth not a lot, if it doesn't sell its getting binned. But, someone one here might contact me and say I'll offer you £10 plus postage.

Like Steve not so long along asked me how much I was prepared to pay for a DDS-4 drive, I gave him a price and he accepted. If he advertised it as £60 I would have declined as I had a limited budget in mind, he didn't want it, so no one lost out.

Zboyd a while a go in a thread was hinting on selling his Corsair RAM. He didn't state at the time, but if he would have told me the price first I may not have considered it. As it wasn't for me, the person in question couldn't afford it (Saul to the rescue!)

A guide price isn't always possible though, unless you know its value. But to someone else it could be worth a lot more than you think it would be.

I sold some software on an eBay many moons ago. I'd picked it up as left over from a company IT installation. They said to bin it, on eBay it went with me expecting nothing (as I was planning on binning it)..... in the last 5mins, 10 people started a bidding war, sold for £230!!!!!! :-o

To me it was worthless, to the right person that was a bargain purchase! :-o

Full apologies if I've caused a bit of a stir in CampSCN. Not sure what the thread that got deleted was about, can only assume some pi$$ taking, like some postings on here.

I offered my suggestions in this current thread, as a help to try and overcome some legit for sale postings that may have been declined due to no price indicated. I'm not going to go over them again, as I said just a suggestion. Everything has a price, but not everyone knows what price something might be valued at. I have another idea to overcome this if I have to put an actual price down. But, this could be contraversial (sp?)

If you are thinking of adding more classified sections, may I suggest scrapping any "make me an offer" sections, but actually expand on the more popular for sale items eg. have a Computer related for sale/wanted section etc?

Goot :)

I have a question, what about ebay adverts, obviously you cant state a price as its an aution with possibly no buy it now feature. What do you do then?

And as for contact details, is it good enough to say; contact seller through eBay. ?

mrcoyote
09-12-2005, 14:02
Ebay auctions are generally ok, but please try to state what they're about rather than just dumping a link in there with no explaination.
