View Full Version : Discs & Brake Lines
Do any of you guy's running TAROX or similar slotted or drilled discs run the ones with seperate hub?
I've seen comments on another forum that mention a drastic reduction in the rotating mass of the wheel, which translates into much better performance.
Any experience with the stainless steel brake lines?
prc ~ re floating discs ~ I can see definate advantages for heat dissipation, but improved performance from reduced mass?
The material "removed" is so close the the hub centre that it must have....where's my calculator......
{tap tappity tap}
.....yeah.....approximately 4uck all difference to the inertia of the rotating bits. :)
Happy to be proved wrong though.....guess it is same concept as a lightened flywheel, but they are expected to accelerate / decelerate by several 000 rpm very quickly.....a roadwheel isn't.
i have some goodridge braided brake lines which are ptfe inside, they do help firm up the ibiza soggy feel a bit, they were 65 ukp .And garanteed for life.
btw the image you have shown isn't the two piece disc, just painted in the centre,at least i think it is as the two peice ones are covered in allen head bolts usually:cheers:

That looks just like a regular G88 Tarox disk, liked cracked on my own car!
No bell on that one.
Willwood, AP, Hi-Spec can all do bells with disks, and there are weight savings to be had for sure, but that is all up weight more than rotating mass type weight.
Having said that, the Brembo 305x28 disks I am running now on my own motor, have no appreciable effect on acceleration at all, but make one hell of a difference when you press the middle pedal :)

Well I was only wondering, 'caus I've already put in the 312mm discs in (off a junked A8), but the discs have quite a bit of wear to them already. I will eventually have to replace them.
I do have some experience with the torax disc (the ones with the slots and drilled holes, Sport Japan I think). On the Golf they warped quite easily (not to mention the significant increase in pad wear) plus after about 70000KM the cracks on the drilled holes were big (scared the shit out of me) and I change back to stock discs. Are there any other manufacturers I should consider?
I was in fact wondering if the stainless steel brake lines could take away a bit of the mushy feel of the brake pedal.
I haven't done so yet but should I also change the brake fluid to DOT 5.1?
It's not that the 288mm stock toledo brakes suck, but I was much happier when I had the 280mm on the beeza. This might have to do with the extra weight of the car + the softer suspension?.

I dont think they are off an Audi A8 as they would have a completely different bolt pattern of 5x112 rather than 5x100.
And the A8 never came with 312 either, 314x30 on early cars changing to 323x30 on later cars, all with huge 4-pots.

Stainless braided hoses can help get a firmer pedal feel, and dot 5.1 fluid can live with heat better than lower grade fuilds.
I run both in my 20VT Ibiza.

Not sure Enzo, I was told they were off an A8, but maybe a TT?
I will probably upgrade to the stainless steel lines and DOT 5.1.
One lingering question is wheather or not its worth upgrading the discs to slotted discs or should I just replace with a new OE disc.
My mechanic says it's not worth upgrading to the slotted discs.
