View Full Version : Boost Guage Fitted now-Ibiza

I got round to fitting my boost guage to my Ibiza yesterday/today... Fiddly old job it was too.
Sighting the mounting pod was difficult and I ended up mounting it in the lower portion of the centre console in the beginning as this was as far as I could get with the supplied hose. Ran it around last night to see it all worked, and concluded I would crash the car, when looking down at the guage under boost - ie not watching the road.
I got some more hose this morning and couplers from my local pneumatic place, and resited the pod at the base of the A pillar, at easy line of sight. Much better.

works well and is illuminated.

Boost seems to vary though, as I suspected but now have figures.
This is an Oettinger converted engine, still tight at 1670 miles only, and has peeked on 17psi full boost before winding down to 12(ish). I did get a spike of 18psi, then an immediate drop to 10psi, stuttering feeling, then it shot straight back up to 18psi again, like a rocket. Weird eh?
15psi pulls like a train, which makes the 12psi seem quite flat by comparison.
Early days, but I can at least keep an eye on it for my occasional "stuttering" problem under boost.

its straight foward enough, but fiddly getting access to things like feeding the pipe through the bulkhead in a sensible position. There is so much stuff crammed in the engine bay, it made it awkward.
Finding a suitable source for the lights on feed for the backlight took me a while to find, but most of this was working out how things came apart for the first time.
Being the first time, it took me ages, and a couple of positions to get what I wanted. Next time would be much quicker now I've sussed it. I would recon on a good hour and a half to fit it properly. (took me over 4 hours humming and harring 1st time. )

regards
Bill

Yep. Will do. I'll get snapping later on tonight.
the guage I bought has no make on it, although I did buy a TIm one. You do get what you pay for. Won't be fitting a TIM guage myself. Er Erm.
It looks like a CA guage (page 139 in Demon Tweeks, bottom of the page, but in psi not bar like the catalogue) I bought it off Avonbar earlier this year for my Scirocco project at Gti International.

As requested, some piccies of the install.
Note line of sight to view the boost guage. If mounting nn the lower centre console, you would be asking for a crash, as it is so far off the drivers line of sight, its dangerous.
Strangely, Seat optional guages are fitted in this blind spot! DOH!

I used one of the feed pipes on the LHS (as looking into the engine bay) underneath the inlet manifold. One goes to the fuel pressure regulator and the other one, which I tee'd into, went to some of the boost controlling equipment. Small bore pipe, with cloth covering.

Bill,

nice work mate, looks great.

Questions:

1) Can you get hold of another one of those boost gauges you have....its idea.

2) How much you chargin to fit the whole lot (gauge included).

Danny boy is soooo busy chipping cars, he hasn't got any spare time to fit a gauge for me. So have to look elsewhere.

You know what you are doing, and Danny tells me you guys have known each other for 3 years.

So give me some figs please!!!

Any discounts, being a fellow RSD 210 nut!!!

cheers bill
