I also have tried these "blueish/yellowish" xenon imitations (don't know the make, but they were manufactured in the UK and were quite expensive compared to usual bulbs).
The results in color was really "interesting", but on the contrary they stated their lighting power were noticable less than original bulbs. I got them out after a single day. I do not recommend them for anybody!

i would hope as they were Seat Cupra R supplied, they would be pukka ones...
I run Xenon's in my A6, and they are a whiter light and maybe a little brighter because of it. Direct on they do have a blueish tinge.
i have seen dipped bulbs like you describe.. and they do look yellow and have bugger all actual light eminating from them.. Nasty things.

What, me??? http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/rolleyes.gif
Yep! I've got some of the blue/orange indicators. They truly look the muts nuts, looking straight on at the car they give the light housings a lovely blue tinge but flash a nice bright orange. Heartily recommended.
I've also got some blue sidelight bulbs, look damn funky with sidelights on at night. Trouble is, as with normal sidelights they don't light the road, you need to whack the fogs on to see anything so I'm counting down the days until Mr Policeman pulls me over! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif
As soon as Flapper gets the main/highs in I expect I'll be in for a purchase.....

I just checked what did i fit which didn't look good. Do not buy "Electra Blue" from Ring Automotive. It says "giving a unique & powerful blue-white light", which is correct apart from being powerful.
The colourful coating on the bulbs seem to get darker and darker over time spoiling the light!!! Also the bulbs are exxtremely hot (!), when i got them out after a day the metal was burned & coloured (!) like a stantard bulb looking after 2-3 years!
Once i saw another model from these guys, there was the magical "Xenon" word written on it, and that it has got 30% brighter light that usual bulbs, but reduced life time. It was also expensive.

Bill,
I've got myself the everything bar the fog lights now. They work a treat, they definitely aren't just dipped ones, they look great at night, a very clear white light and are brighter than normal.
Thanks for the GTI International flyer, Kate just dropped it down. I was out at Amethyst at the time, just had a good look at your motor, Graham is taking it up later. Strange looking at those new numberplates. Oh and I've never really noticed quite how yellow the Ovni is until I just looked at it.....it's even in need of a clean and is still blinding. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/cool.gif

Yep it certainly has, it's going to get complicated to work out, just by looking at the plate, how old it is.
I was like an excited child at Christmas at this point.....sad I know.

Andy
What do you mean complicated to work out ??
I don't this theory that the new munber plates will make it harder to work out a cars age...
let me see :
??51 from sept 2001 to feb 2002
??09 from march 2009 to aug 2009
doesn't seem too difficult to me ??
In fact i'd say that its easier than the old system...
[Message edited by Tadger on 25 August 2001.]
1) letter for registration station
2) letter for area within above
3) 0 = march reg 5 = sept reg
4) = year of registration
5)ALL random letters
6)ALL random letters
7)ALL random letters
so therefore VX51HKK is worcester registered for the cheltenham south area for a car registered between SEPT 2001 to FEB 2002
any help?

Not quite right...
??51 from sept 01 to feb 28 2002
??02 from march 02 to aug 31 2002
??52 from sept 01 to feb 28 2003
??03 from march 02 to aug 31 2003
etc etc etc
What would have made more sense is to make the 5 a 9 eg ninth month=sept and to make the 0 a 3 eg 3rd month=march. But not. Too obvious perhaps?
VX = Worcester obvious??? NOT!
BA = Birmingham a little closer I guess.
New plate law has some other ties also... must show proof of ownership to get a plate made, which must have where made + postcode + euro GB thingy.
Oh well.
Looks different for the moment

Hi again!,
just thought i would add that i got some quite expensive blue coated xenon bulbs whilst i was out in france on holiday, I had to because all the back roads in france are totally unlit in the country and there is no 'town glow' to partially light the way out there either and the standard lights on the leon are almost useless out there, so i went to a automotive hypermarket that they have out there and found some 55w blue xenon bulbs for dipped beam and some 100w blue xenon's for my main beam, upon fitting them and standing in front of them i almost blinded myself with main beam on they were so bright!!, and i whizzed around the back roads much happier with them in but had to set the main beam to point lower otherwise i was lighting up the sky too!!, they do run quite a bit hotter and i was worried about melting the plastic lenses of the headlamps but 4 months on and they are perfectly ok having had lots of use, I am always careful to take main beam off quickly when i see another car approaching as i realise the amount of light these things give out!, in total for 4 new bulbs it cost the equivalent of £65 but it was well worth it as just with the dipped beam bulbs i have swapped the bulbs round a number of times just to see if the light was brighter/whiter and it definitly is!! and there is also that feint blue tint to the light when viewed from certain aggles too
Regards
Ian

Hi Daz
Thanks for the Xenon bulbs they give a very good white light and are a big improvement on the standard ones fitted to my Leon but,
I still think my nearside light is aiming too low. I have pointed the lights at the garage door, as you suggested, and the nearside is quite a bit lower than the offside how do go about raising it and should they be equal or left higher than right etc. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif
ps look forward to the indicator bulbs http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/cool.gif

Mike,
What advice was that? Or do you mean you put the left one 2/3cm lower? I keep getting people flashing me, don't know whether they're off line or just very bright. I had a TT behind me last night with proper Xenons, had to dip the mirror, they weren't off target though.

Ha! I got flashed last night as it happens.... Revenge is mine! Never had that problem before.... always on the receiving end historically.
dip beam does seem high but not badly or into other road users eyes. Nice white light from the Xenons.

Doctor Flapper's advice
LEON HEADLAMPS
put your car 4ft from a wall (measured from the no.plate) measure the height of each MAIN beam from floor(should be 2ft) if your wall is wide enough ,find the outer ends of the beams (flash a card over the edges of the headlmaps and see the shadow) the TOTAL width is approx (10 ft) noy listed in the manual ,but seems to be just right for the LEON

I have a few questions regarding these Xenon lights. Firstly are they easy to replace myself or would it be best to get my local dealer to do them? If so how much is it likely to set me back roughly, as I am only a student and have to watch my finances!!!!! I also noticed that most of you guys are getting them through Flapper, how do you pay for them, I know that they get for delivered for free, well not free but is included in the price!
