View Full Version : APR be careful with ECU :-))
My ECU is on the road to APR..
Hope they ll do a good job and i 'll have it back soon...
One question.
I don't want to have 95 octane program but only 98 octane
Can i use sometimes 95 octane and have my chip off?
is there a problem?
And when using 98 octane then put the chip ON..
Or i have to use always 98 octane?
Hope you understand my english :-)
Greetings from Greece...(come for the summer)
So you need 3 programs (1 normal,1 95oct,1 98oct) switching them from the cruise control?
I think that 95 octane will decrease the power slightly.
But I don't think it will harm your engine.
But 98 octane is recomended :D
98 octane gives you slightly lower fuel consumption, better colling effect and is more easy for the car to use.
This is not any fact, thats only what I know.
Give me some credit if wrong...

Hi Greece
I guess the ECU we returned to the SEAT factory in Greece today was for yourself? It is the first Ibiza one they have ever sent us.
We do not have a 98 program for the Ibiza and the ECU was returned with 95/Stock and valet along with security feature. I guess you are not having the cruise control fitted due to the request of program order? As you know the system defaults to program one and locked state. This configuration will allow the car to be in performace 95R mode until such a time comes when you fit cruise control. They should receive it tomorrow (thursday) so have fun:D

Thank all of you for replying
Yes Mark this ECU is mine...and i m waiting for cruise control from Spain..but i am sad now :(
I use 99 octane (Shell V-power racing) to my std car...and i ordered only 98 and not the 95 octane program...
Now i have something that is different...(my fault cause i did'nt understood well)
Maybe you have to remove the 98 oct program for ibiza cupra from your site?(98 Octane (program 3) where available--->where available?)
The car will have 193 bhp (as you write to your site) with 95 program?
Will you ever make a 98 oct program for ibiza?--->(say Yes)
Sorry for my questions but i expected something else (i m writing all these before testing the car...maybe i ll find it exciting---hope so--) and sorry for my not good english.
I have heard too many good words for you from your happy costumers ...all that i want,is to be on of them.
Hope for some answers
Hi Greece
i thought i told you to stop worrying :D
95 program will run fine on 98RON fuel, 99 im not sure about
The ECU use's an adaptable system that can alter ignition knockback to suit fuels being run in the car (i think?)
You will be fine with the 95 program
NOW STOP WORRYING :p  and get
The ECU should be self adjusting using the knock sensor and so seperate programs for 95/98/99 octane fuels should not be necessary.... 98/99 octane should automatically be detected (via the knock sensor not detecting any knocking at the limit of 95 octane settings) and the ECU and ignition timings should adjust and give you more performance and less fuel consumptions.
Cheers

That's what I was looking for.... =)
I think you'll find that the Ibiza's Bosch ECU has a limited window of opportunity for ignition advance/retard.
Running 98 on a 95 program will give you increased performance due to the ECU retarding ignition, but can only retard as far as the "window of opportunity" lets it (as mapped by APR) - Therfore limited increase in power.
Hence the anticipated 98 prog for the Ibiza, will I guess, simply shift where the ignition window lies and hence allow for more timing adjusment and unleash the true potential of the 98ron fuel without hitting this brick wall (end of window). This is why it is stressed that if and when the 98 prog is released, you should never run 95ron fuel in your car when still in this 98 prog as the timing window will have been shifted and the car will pink/knock when trying to correct for the lower grade fuel.
Hope this helps..... (and hasn't confused matters)
APR correct me if I'm wrong !?

APR will have a 98RON program for the ibiza in a few days.
Till then i use my 95 program with 98 octane and the car is excellent :-)
201 bhp with 95 program (and exhaust)
maybe with the 98ron program will have more power..
APR we are waiting :-)
PS.I think the revs limit after APR's chip has change.am i right?
