When looking around for my Ibiza Cupra I found the Marshalls sale team to be very willing to help. Other garages within my area seemed to be uninterested in me due to my age (21 at the time) and wanting a brand new cupra.

I bought my car in January this year and was very happy with it until I had to deal with the service department.

Whilst in both the head lining and paintwork was been damaged.

I beleive the headling might be done under warranty but the scratches are so they tell me nothing to do with them.

It has been back to the dealership a number of times since and every time they seem to do nothing to the car. one time the bloke aknowledged I was there and then went and hid for half hour before coming out to see me.

I have spoken to a number people since buying my car and no-one I have spoken to seemed to have a good word to say about Marshalls (being the group not just Seat)

I personally would not reccomend this dealership to anyone and I plan to steer clear of them in the future.
Has anyone else had problems with marshalls???

Is the Seat dealership in Bury St Edmunds a good one???

Check the threads in this forum - there's info on both marshalls and the dealership in Bury (who are good, apparently).

Marshalls - sales team excellent IMO - very nearly bought a car off them. Service team - mmm - took three attempts to fix my rear brake light switch problem with a lot of time wasting. They did manage it in the end but didn't fit back the dash cover by the pedals properly! Didn't inspire confidence - so I'll probably take my servicing business to Seat Cheshunt. Bit further to travel for me - but they seem to get good reviews.

I wasn't struck on the sales team really. Appeared very friendly but the price seemed to change daily. Previous experience of the Marshall group put me off completely, so I went to Ipswich to Garney and Hill. Superb dealer, I now use their newer Bury branch and again seem very good.

PeterS, My car had to have a new dash fitted, it was carried out by Marshalls, when I got the car back the panel around the Radio wasnt fitted back properly. I was called back to the garage a number of times under the impression that they were going to put it right. however each time the service manager looked at it wrote down a list of problems then said he would get back to me. Eventually I got a meeting booked with SEAT's area manager and from what the manager had told him, I had refused to let them do anything with it!!

I never did get it put right by marshalls!

Anyway, my electric window stopped working so I took the car into Garney & Hill, in bury (they fixed the dash back) my first impression of them is very good. Got to go back next week to have the motor fitted.
Lucky the car has air con otherwise i'd be roasting!!

I agree with all of you..... Marshall sales OK, service is another matter :(

Mind you, they're better than Fiat dealers (but thats not too hard!)

I mean't to add, do you think I can switch my servicing to Bury now that I'm on Marshalls computers?

You can take it to any UK Seat dealer for servicing and warranty work. Don't let them fob you off.

StuartT, I asked SEAT uk that question, they told me as long as its serviced by SEAT your warranty is not affected. I was asking If I could get it done by Vindis VW, but they wouldn't have it!

When speaking to Garney & Hills they don't mind that the car has come from else where either.

I've got a while until my next service (6 months), but I'll probably vist'em to get a 2nd opinion on my chirping turbo (Marhsalls response "They're all like that sir").

Does anyone have the phone number of Garney & Hills please? I can't find it through director enquiries.

Thanks,
dave

Unfortunately they've been bought out and no longer do Seat - Stonacre in Peterborough might be worth a try (not heard anything bad) 01733 552348

Thanks, I have now got it booked in at Barr Tech. They quoted £241 for my 40k service. They seem very good thus far, i will give more feedback when the job's done.

I'd be interested in knowing how Bartech perform, I thought about using them to have some work done on my Boxster but hadn't heard much about them, I travel to Braintree to have work done at the moment!

i have my company van done at marshalls and they take you out with a member of their staff to "inspect"your car for damage before they start working on it. last time i was in there they must of raised it to far and hit the roof now as a crease across the top of van but it was too late to report it ,i took the van away and only noticed it when i washed it!

i too used garneys in bury st edmunds for 2 services and warrenty work with good service.

only used stoneache in p/boro for a mot

is that bartech on the science park?

btw stone ache quoted £170 for a 3rd service

£170 is pretty cheap. Is that including labour do you know?

Anyway, dropped my car off at Barr Tech this morning so fingers crossed it's all ok..

Stoneacre seems the opposite to marshalls.

I went to stoneacre (peterborough) to swap my old Ibiza and they didn't seem interested, wherass i part-exed one from marshalls (cambridge) and was very happy with the service and price. (they let me go out on the test drive on my own, whereas a VW garage i went to once seemed like they didn't actually want me to drive the car at all.)

HOWEVER, the service at marshalls was VERY dear: Ibiza 1.4 Sport (100bhp) 1st year service - over £240 . got screwed rotten.

Then i bought the FR and put it in at peterborough for £166 (3 quid extra for it being a TDI apparently), but very helpful and easy to deal with.

I ordered my Ibiza TDi Cupra from Marshalls Bedford, £14450 with Cruise Control, Momo Strut Brace and Chrome Vent pack thrown in :D Ordered within 15 minutes over the phone.

So far so good. Salesman was enthusiastic and actually took the time to introduce himself etc. Unlike Miller and Middleton in Colchester who didn't have a clue about the car I was interested in, didn't offer me a business card or a contact name, wouldn't give discount and merely threw a pricelist and brochure in my face...

Does anyone know when/if a new SEAT Dealer will be opening in Ipswich soon? Would be handy as it'll make things much easier when I need to get it serviced!

Miller and Middleton's sales side can be a bit crap, but the service and parts are pretty good. Or at least I've never had any problems with them.

The weird thing is that Garneys and Hill in Ipswich wouldn't give me a discount and yet Miller and Middleton did. Maybe you just got them at the wrong time of the month?

Bit late, but finally some feedback re. Barr Tech. The cost of service was exactly as quoted, which is obviously good.
However, when washing the car it now suffers from the notorious, damp passenger footwell problem. It is unaffected in rain, solely when I clean the car.
I assume this must be because the pollen filter was refitted incorrectly. I have just recently taken the pollen filter out, checked for leaks etc and refitted it. Hopefully this will solve the problem. I haven't cleaned the car since i refitted it so we shall have to wait and see how it is next time.
Anyway, as a result of this Barr Tech have gone down in my estimations..
