"A stone went through one of the stock ones. You'll never guess how much the dealer quoted for a replacement..."

Long testing with various types of intercooler cores and different thickness of cores , lead us to settle on this sizing , you can get in a thicker core but only at the expense of cutting and more modifactions to trims etc , also the need for placing of " padding " to stop rubbing and inteference.
Thicker cores also saw an increase in pressure drop .
We believe this core is an excellant choice for the R and will more than cope with bigger turbo devleopments or custom tuning .
However if any customers wish to commision a custom build intercooler for thier own specifcation of car we will of course be happy to oblige
Cutting permitted :)

Would be cool if you could do a before and after run at Awesome????
Probably crossed your mind already :cartman:
Steve
That depends on Awesome really, and how much time they have available. I'll be there early and as i only live 20 mins away, not really bothered when i get away, so im flexible.
But depends on if I can have an FMIC :p and if Awesome can fit me in for 2 runs, don't want to take a run away from someone else, whos already on the list, wouldn't be fair.

What about removing the std numberplate for a square one? I note in the first post the std plate seems to block the FMIC. It's an issue in the Ibiza too. Lots of FMIC but lots of grill and bumper to block it too :(
Rgs
Dor.
In the real world sense, looking at the phots of Scotts, i don't think it blocks it any more than the stock twin setup with the fog lights in the way, less so in my opinion, its a lot of directred air reaching it straight on, rather than it finding its way around the fog lights, even if you take them out, its still tunnelling it into the IC's, rather than a directed full on air supply.

Easiest route is reduce the plate size, Fancyplates.com, 3/4 size plates ;)

Where does the air that hits the plate go? onto the intercooler..... so no point apart from convincing yourself of an improvement

The advantage I was after though was another couple of seconds longer for the Scamera van to lock on [:@] hopefully giving me a few extra seconds to see it, slow down etc

 would be easy enough to make a bracket to mount the plate onto your bumper, but will require screwing into the plastic unless you trust no more nails, but that would end up pulling the paint off :(

Only if it's slanted in toward the IC. On the Leon it's flat plate.
Remember when we dropped the ally deflector plate on your Ibiza TT with the 45 degree angle to push the air up the radiator because most of the rad wasn't exposed to the airflow? That the general principle :)

was that on the bottom of the rad ?
found mines been running a tad hot lately (weather warm days) and mainly cos the bumper is all open at the front - originally put it down to engine still being tight etc but been playing with it the last week ;) couldnt afford flash ally plate so used the box off the george forman grille - lol
slanted up from bumper to rad lower (bout 45 degrees) and closed sides off at same time and dropped an average of 8/9 degrees on oil temp alone
got a local test road i noticed gauge was up to 5/8 and rising - modded as above runs 1/2 sweet as a nut
thanks for the ally tip - i was gonna use some wheel arch liner plastic

My theory was that you'd get a 50/50 split

the TT needed iit because only about 1" was visible whereas the Leon already has a scoopy thing at the bottom luckily

Do you require mine even though I will only be going ahead if we hit that magical 15 mark? Or is it something that you could do a load of and then keep them for when they are required, as I'm sure they will? If we were to go ahead now, when would they be ready? It's just like I said either in this thread or the other, I am going past your way next week and could stop by, but just curious really.
Also curious about what peeps think about this and their warranty? I still have 2 years manufacturers warranty left and just wondered whether you thought this would void it? That is, more than the Revo because they can't see that... ;)

so we are going to take this GB straight to the lowest level pricing
at £ 673 incl vat + £ 15.00 carriage
Fitting is still £ 117.00 incl vat
This is a cracking deal , if any of you were undecided , I hope that this will sway you to coming on board
Is this price a one off or will it happen again if there is another GB on it?

Bring the bits to Awesome, seems we could be having a fitting party in the car park :p Im bringing my boost guage too, may aswell, get the whole lot done :D
I am ordering a Carbonio CAI which I will be fitting in the car park too, thought I'd try it as I won't have an SMIC to get in the way (I have ways of making it fit the LCR MAF :cheeky: ) Awesomes car park will look pretty funny with all these LCR's in bits.
There maybe a future group buy, whether or not the same number of people maybe interested to bring the price suitably low enough.
This is a good deal, for a very well engineered kit, remember this also includes a new crash bar, and requires no cutting or shutting to make it fit, its been developed on a Cupra R for a Cupra R.
As has been said, i'd strike whike the iron's hot, i know i have. Even though im skint :p Too good an offer to pass up really, considering it retails for well over £800 usually.

Carbonio won't fit i don't think mate! Because the MAF housing is bigger! Not 100% sure though!

I can't quote exactly, just hoping that they drop as stg 2 makes it cook. My carbon engine cover has discoloured as its running so hot under the hood. With better cooling I can ramp to boost settings up and not be worried about chronic heat soak. Sorry I cant be more specific!

how about now?
I'll have a good look at this tomorrow and decide then whether to splash more cash on the car.
Its not a bad price as the hoses alone cost a fortune to buy!
It would be good to have a before and after comparison on the rollers of the SMIC vs FMIC.
Did i hear someone mention they were fitting 1 in the car park?
hahaha
in the rain, that may "dampen" the spirits of enthusiasm some what
Your fitting it though :p
Id like to do a before and after, however it would probably mean someone doing without a run, which is not very fair. So i guess my run will be done with my FMIC fitted.
This is of course all academic, it may not be ready, so Steve won't be able to bring it up with him.

Surely you can get an early run with the SMIC and then run last of the day when everyone else is finished.
It would be very good to note any differences but agree may not be possible if the day is jam packed full with cars!
Depends on 2 Factors :
1. If they have time.
2. £60 of my money
;)
I'll let you get in before me if you want as im 2nd on the list so a nice early run for you!
im sure awesome will accomodate you running last also to get a direct comparison of SMIC and FMIC.
They would be interested in the differences in results aswell so i cant see why they wouldn't! I doubt any other SCN member minding as its good info to have.
Would help me make up my mind also on whether to buy 1 ;) Pretty please ;)
Up to me, Saul and Awesome to sort out, if it can happen it will. Im there all day from the beginning to the end.
Is that Pretty Please and £30 ;)
what about some vagcom runs before and after ? (MAF/temp?)
not much point straight after as you won't have any adaptation, nor optimum SPS3 settings

Yes the technology I have only stretched to a phone so I text Saul to reassure you Z ;)
Have to say folks initially I was slightly dissapointed in the product BUT just like when I fitted a new MAF or whatever I have learnt to be patient. Now it's been on 48hrs and the drive back from Awesome was really good.
Benefits;-
Pulls Really hard all the time
Pulls for longer up the Rev range
Opportunity to run more Timing and Boosrt using my SPS3
Every run now feels like the car did on those cool morning runs
I could swear slightly better fuel economy
Looks Cool
48hrs on and I'm in no doubt that this is a great mod and great value for money
Very impressed though with the facility in Gloucester, thankyou Forge crew for your hospitality on the day and the drive of the Golf.
Just a shame the CAI didn;t fit :(

m0rk, thats a job well done on the fmic install. How long would you estimate it would take a novice to fit on his own.
about 3hrs (assuming you have tools to hand)
some jobs are 3 handed though.

Are you talking about Forge's KONA High Velocity Induction System
If so are they going to do something about it as I wanted one of those :(
Yes
You'll need to ask Peter as you, me and Empi5 were interested they may be able to do something

Anyone mentioned the lineing up issue with the crash bar?
Anyone mentioned the lineing up issue with the crash bar?
I made the bolts fit :) m0rk was gonna have a word with forge ;)

They are genuine SEAT bumpers and we have noticed that some holes do not line up on both the Ibiza and Leon ones, it always seems to be a different hole every time we fit one so I am not sure how these crash bars are actually manufactured? We just buy them, modify the centre and then re-strengthen, we dont touch the bolt pattern ends at all. I hate to say this but we dont have this issue with Skoda or VW crash bars! Lets just pass the blame to the Spanish for now ;)
The lads seemed to have it well in hand regardless. They did a good job, I was happy anyway. smart bit of kit. Thanks. :)
A question for those of you who have had this done or are going to: Have you declared it to your insurance company and what did they say? Who do you use, as if I go ahead with my current insurer, Elephant, they won't insure me anymore!
Just to demonstrate this well thought out kit. And why you definately won't be dissapointed.
Brought to me by Ruddmeister, cheers mate :)
Then installed in around 2.5 hours by m0rk and vern. Many thanks chaps. I then went out to give it a good thrash to make sure nothing was going to pop off, and everything was running fault free.
Car felt much more urgent and pulled harder, I have not fiddled with my SPS settings, and left it as it was setup before by Kev, when I had the stage 2 (4bar) code installed a few weeks back, that was set at lowboost-9 and timing-6 running on a full fresh tank of optimax.
It was driven onto the rolling road, and sat ticking over for a few moments while we chatted with Jim, the fans on the RR were not running at this point..
Once i started up VAG COM to start logging, we first saw 60degree inlet temps, this was due to the ambient temp of the room, and the fact the car was sat idling on the RR.
Once the fans came on, it quickly started to drop into the low 50's.
First run, at full load, we were seeing around 37-38 degrees inlet. On coastdown/overrun, it went up to 45degrees maximum.
It then went onto do this consistantly the same for each run. Very cool ;)
Comapred to Saul's car, I appreciate its not a Leon R, but as a loose comparison his intake temps on his single standard IC (1.8T Toledo) were over 70 degrees.
Also my car had 0 timing pull during all its 3 runs, so for the future, we now need to fiddle a bit, and up the timing and boost and do some more logging, plenty more scope for a bit more power. :D
m0rk is doing some graphs for the inlet temps we measured on the day during its three back to back RR runs. We'll add those to this thread soon.
Many thanks to the chaps at Forge, great kit.
In the meantime some pics for you to look at from the hilarity that was the fitting session: (click thumbnails for full size images)

My head looks shiny, head board friction :p not as shiny as stu's cr@ck though

Unfortunatly i need a bit more definate answer than that peter, do you expect me to take my car into the garage with the off chance that it might be delivered, i will be having their courtesy car etc etc.
Unless you can guarantee that it will be there Monday, then Im not going to mess the garage about, and will have to reschedule the install, whenever that may be !

Mine?
They said "Non standard filters and 10% performance increase, that'll be £63 please". They have refused to insure me with an FMIC and when I got a quote from Adrian Flux, they quoted £2200.
