Hi Everyone,

I've just picked up another new cupra (long story, dealership mess, done 1900 miles in my old one and now have one with 22 miles on it http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif (they gave me the wrong one!)).

Anyway, whilst I was there I enquired about the Cupra R brembo's.

I was really shocked when I was told the whole lot, brembo calipers, disks and pads are about £340 including VAT! I was expecting them to be about the same price as the AP 4-pots.

Anyway, has anyone done the conversion? Do they go straight on? Are they 4-pots?

ta,
Matt.

seriously,

the parts guy in Listers Coventry checked it and when he said that I got him to check it again, he is 'positive' they are that much!

He said the calipers area about £110 each (apparently).

I also find/found it hard to believe!

If they are that much tho guess what I'm gonna get http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

HE's RIGHT , well almost

BUT with all the brackets PIPES bolts AND EVERY OTHER FITTING REQUIRED it gets a LOT dearer , calipers ARE £100 each BUT the 1 main braket part is £80 the 2nd part is £68 and the list goes on ,if i remember you need EVERYTHING on screen ,ecen the bolts are £15 each ,so get him to check it ALL off first

Thanks for the info Daz, can you supply them at all? If so, what would the complete package cost, inclusive of fitting?

ta,
Matt.

Does the Brembos use larger size Disks? If not I recommend you use SEAT SPORT calipers which work with the standard disks and everything else. SEAT uses them for a CUP series in spain, I also have the rear calipers but I dont think you really need them. I have them in my Ibiza and I compared them APs system and they seem to be just as good at a fraction of the cost. Your SEAT dealer should be able to get them.

Matt, well done this sounds like a top deal!
Is there any way you can post a complete list of bits, prices, etc.
I must admit I'm surprised at the price myself and thought you would need 17" alloys for the bigger calipers for a start. Do you keep the standard size discs then?
Riveroll, your Ibiza will have smaller discs than the Leon so you won't be able to use the Seat Sport caliprers

20VT, I have SEAT SPORT calipers on my Ibiza. I guess they are not the same as the ones on the Leon but they are original SEAT Sport and the are awesome.

As someone who does not really understand all of this braking technology, can someone please answer me a simple question....

I find the standard brakes on my Ibiza Cupra very poor, its only done 2000 miles, and I have not used the brakes to excess, but find that they just dont fill me with any confidence when I want to use them, the front seems ok, but the back just doesnt seem to brake at the same rate, making the car feel very light at the back, not good when taking a corner at 50 ish.

Now £900 is a bit too much for me to spend on the upgrade but I really want to do something to help the situation, thoughts anyone ? flapper ? some idea of prices would be good.

Thanks in advance http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

we have listed the TAROX option ??

£499 inc vat and fitting

TAROX grooved discs and fast road pads

still a tad dear though ,mind you i dont reckon the std brakes are that bad ??

as for the TYPE R ,discs are 305*28 so they are bigger and as for the FULL kit ,you may ???? not need it all but to be honest experience states it usually the case or some FAST fixits @ fitting time

When you say the back feels light.... I think its as much down to the front suspension dive under braking as it is brake effectiveness.
I have the Tarox disks and EBC pads as part of my 210 conversion. They work very well, but I agree there is an unsettling feeling when the front is diving hard under hard braking. This is suspension though and spring rates I believe.
My 2 penneth.

cupracing I too believe its the suspension.
The rear brakes MUST not be as effective as the front, because you'll be in serious trouble braking at say 100mph having 50%-50% brakes.

Check the suspension, in my opinion the standard Ibiza cupra suspension sux big time. I would go for a new suspension, that'll offer superior handling and increase braking power.

Plus you won't need to hit the brakes so often at 50ish when cornering....! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

I don't want to come across as an arse but you shouldn't really brake in a bend anyway, but BEFORE the bend. Slow in, fast out, brake on the straight before, keep moderate power then gradually increase it when you see the exit.
To brake mid bend will get you out of shape in most cars regardless of how well they handle (and French cars can be much less forgiving than VWs and Seats in this respect)
Of course with better tyres and suspension you'll be able to enter the bend faster in the first place with less understeer. Gotta start saving for these PSS9s http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/tongue.gif

P.S. Even just upgrading the pads to more fade resistant ones will make a big difference to your braking confidence, at least with the standard 156 horses.
