View Full Version : Chipping and Insurance
Hi all,
I'm looking at getting my Leon Cupra chipped (likely Jabbasport...) but I'm a bit worried about the effect this would have on the insurance, especially since I am paying just under a grand now! :scream:
Can you guys let me know what effect you have had (or if you have not told them...)
TIA
it really depends on the situation. Elephant wanted £12 ectra when I got the unichip on the sportin but it was not a huge increase. the chip on a VAG engien is quite a heafty increase so you could be loaded with a few £100 quid. My GT is insured through greenight and they did not want any more cash when I fitted my bleed cause it was only a slight increase in boost although I get 25hp more than standard . best thing to do is ask
had my chip done yesterday at jabba, rang up my insurance company and told them i'd had an ecu re-map and explained it gave a bit more power and made it a bit more responsive. The lady at the other end said "oh you mean a chip" i thought £??? was going to be needed. But she came back and said it would be £30 extra,so i think it all depends on your particular insurer.Best bet is to give them a ring and ask,you never know you might be pleasantly surprised.
I think Tesco's charged me an extra 40 quid for the year for the Oettinger 195 chip. (RSD 210 package). Without the chip was £800.

My sporting is now insured with london victoria and the consiter the unichip to be an engine modification as is the filter so comes under the smae extra :D
