View Full Version : How to ask the dealer?

All who have,

I have an ibiza cupra that I got a few months ago and as some will have seen on other posts I have an annoying squeaking/howling problem with my brakes. The dealer said there is nothing wrong with the brakes when they checked them (which is true in terms of braking ability, just an annoying sound).
I wouldn't mind getting some different pads on the car, possibly the "greenstuff" pads. I also fancy putting a Forge DV onto the car too, but I am unsure how to go about asking if they will do it at the dealers. Is it best to just go elsewhere to get it done or go to the dealer and ask, as I don't want them to turn round and say they won't support the servicing of my car in the future if they are a particularly arsey dealership :s

I know Amethyst seem to be a good dealership that will support modding your car, but I am unsure about mine, has anyone else had good or bad responses from other dealerships?

Cheers..

The squeaking/howling problem is unfortunally standard. My brakes are terrible, sqeaking sound even when i move slowly without brakes on.
The first time i mention it they fixed it by making them flat, they were uneven...
So... i would recomend you to buy those greenstuff.... for your own cost :/
Because they wont bother

Why all the hype about EBC greenstuff?
They're shite and thin.
2000 miles and mine are 1/2 gone.
Pagid Fast Road pads are far superior.

I used to use Pagid...very dirty! Lots of dust!

I have heard the Greenstuff are better as they produce less dust and the dust is lighter in colour!

Don't you think it's all relative to what you use them for ???????

Do you want it to stop or look pretty?
Brakes are for stopping are'nt they?
They dust up no more than any other pad. (EBC's give off a grey dust, which on a grey wheel would'nt jump out at you as brake dust. If you wash the wheels though, makes no difference) Pagid's at least come in the correct thickness for the caliper and they do last very well.
If you wash you car/wheels regularly whats the problem with brake dust. Pagid's will outlast EBC's 2:1 easily if not more.

You could always fit matt black wheels http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

Swinny: "depends on what you use it for"
Are'nt brake pads for stopping? Thats what they're used for on mine. If people want to drive slowly don't bother changing pads at all, and don't buy a cupra and don't chip it to 210. The EBC's on mine are 1/2 gone in 2K miles. This is exactly the crappy wear rate I had experienced historically, and sadly they are no better now. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but Fast road Pagids are the far superior pad.
Have you tried Pagid Fast roads on a cupra? You would be impressed with the stopping and the low wear rate I'm sure.

EBC do an awesome sales job talking up their braking power..... reality is'nt the same though. (Whatever Max Power magazine says... Ha!)

Never used them cannot comment.
My experience is the only thing I base my judgements against.
I have used the following pads:
Tarox pads - crap, friction material literally fell off backplate.
Pagid standard - surprisingly good
Mintex M171 - showing my age here. Ok when warmed up.
Mintex 1144 - Work great from cold, never faded, only last 2 track days.
EBC Greenstuff - Crappiest pad of the lot, next to Tarox. 6 laps of Combe and a new pad worn down to the backplate (yes they were bedded in first) - And YES loads of dust off them too.
ATE - OK, similar to Mintex 1144, no fade but not too durable either. Used them with ATE power disks - good combination.
Pagid Fast Road pad - What I have settled on as they work from cold, stop all day long, and they last very well. I use them in combination with Zimmerman cross drilled G60 280mm disks.
£36 for a set not too bad ££ either.

I'm still taking it easy on the pads, but I have heard from Golf drivers that the Greenstuff pads arn't that good, don't last long and are very dirty.
I'll give 'em a go and review what I do when they have worn out.

Cheers for the comments fella's..

I aren't too fussed about the slightly higher cost of the pagids, as long as they sort out my brakes.

I think I will get some, just gotta work out if my dealer will fit them for me now, or if they are gonna be arsey about it and say they don't do mods other than standard kit? :s

We shall see, if they aren't too bad about the brakes I might ask them if they will then do a Forge DV for me too.. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

Just need to not drink so much for a couple of months and I will be able to get the 210 done possibly.. which I SO want.

Cheers again..
