View Full Version : Impoved performance with modified airbox
Hello to everyone!
I own a chipped Ibiza 20VT with a custom cat-back pipe and free air filter. I modified the airbox providing more air.
At a certain distance (about 650 meters where I had before 185 Km/h, I now have 188 Km/h!!
Also the torque is better. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif

Whilst I don't doubt that a professionaly modified airbox can change the output/characteristics of a car..........a whole 3km/h quicker doesn't really inspire me to get the black and decker out just yet!!!
The difference in speed could easily be down to difference in temperature, gearchange etc.
What does it sound like though! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif
The only thing I miss from my last motor is the induction noise.

How did you modify your airbox?, I was thinking of getting an induction kit for my leon and fitting a cold air feed pipe up to it,
But you airbox mods might be easier!

Well, check the original pipe that comes into the airbox. It doesn't stop at the edge of the airbox but it comes inside it for about 1 cm.
By copying this, on the opposite side of the airbox, I made a hole and insert a hard but flexible pipe (aluminium), 1 cm inside, and fix it with black silicone.I fix the other edge of the pipe facing towards the front of the car.
The sound of the car changes a lot!!! I also checked the car with my halmeter and it is ok, but I use a chip on my car. If you don't use a chip, you sould be careful specially at high speed.
Both of the holes are under the airfilter.
If you wish, I could send you some photos.
The three Km I gain are surely not from gear changes or the temperature.
Thanks http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

Yes the airbox links into another airbox in the inner wheel arch.
In a few days I'll take the pictures and post it to this forum (I don't know how, yet - do you have any idea?).
Thanks http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/smile.gif

I sent three pictures (not great quality but you can see what you need) to the administrator of this forum (Modifications).
Many tuners like MTM etc offer a ready airbox modification for the leon but not for ibiza.
So, I had to do something.
I believe that all owners of ibiza 20VT and leon 20VT (specially these who own chipped cars) must provide more air to your cars. You will see quite a difference.

had a little thought. I used to run a moded Truimph spitfire (boo yawn) with a blue printed engine built by the guys who did Will Gollops Meto (!!!!) Rally Cross engine. It went and made a lovely noise.
Anyway I bought some K&N induction trumpets (little alloy) trumpe thingies and i thought if they work for carbs why don't they work for air boxes? I shallorder some an let you kno how they sound http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif and smell http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/rolleyes.gif
Kepp em rollin.....................
PS I had a very naughty wide arch idea in mine.........

I posted yesterday the same message but for unknown reasons I can
t see it.
I send to the administrators of this forum three pictures with details of the modified airbox.
My car is now much faster (torque and speed). Soon I will go to the dynometer and find out exactly the power and torque increase.
Thanks
