:dunno:
A bit of pub talk now. A guy in Southampton is running a 2.0 8v Cavalier (you can spot it a mile away in the dark because he's got LEDs in the front number plate and windscreen washers), fitted with 100BHP NO2 (so he said). Now I only just met the guy so I'm going to verify what he said; knowing a few things about gearboxes and other such running gear, I think he's talking shite...

Anyway, he reckons the NO2 kit cost him £600 fitted, and he's had minimal engine work (gaskits, stronger pistons and conrods) and no head work. He also hasn't had any clutch or gearbox upgrades, or any other running gear changes. I don't think the clutch on his K plater would stand it myself. Oh yeah, he also came up with another ******** figure: 70-140 MPH in 2.7 seconds! I don't think so! I've seen a 700 BHP group B rally (RS200) car go from 0-100 and back down to nought in 3.7 seconds (2nd gear!), check the Guiness Book of Records, should still be there; but even it can't achieve 70-140 in less than 3 seconds.

I'm going on holiday to Newquay today until next weekend, so I'll catch up with you then. Upon my return, I'll get some more info about Nitrous because for the money it certainly sounds interesting. If any of you guys know of NO2 specialists' UK based web-sites, let me know and I'll take a look. A 40BHP dry system just might be a better alternative to getting it chipped.

Cheers,

Im not as technically minded as some on here but 70-140 km/h perhaps?? im sorry but thats a little hard to believe if hes talking mph, as its closer to superbike performance!! Come to think of it if hes not had any clutch or gearing upgrades ( which i would guess would have to be huge) i cant see him getting close to that without burning something out every time he floors it, including NOS hed still only be pumping out around 220bhp which is plenty for a car but not enough to do what hes saying.

BTW did you get a look at his brakes, id guess they are still standard which wouldnt be a very good idea if the car has been upgraded like he says.

The guy you are talking about probably had the system fitted by Regal in Southampton, they are the local "experts" I believe, nitrous is without a doubt the cheapest form of power increase that money can buy, with lots of advanteges, and some bad points to, on a "normal" road car you can put anything from 25bhp upto 75-100bhp, and as long as the nitrous is not being used al the time, most of the other parts, like the clutch will be ok, after all it will just wheel spin!

As for his speed claims......umm sound a bit far fetched to me, on a car specifically built to take huge loads of nitrous, then yes this is possible, but on a modified road car, I dont think it is.

The people to talk to about nitrous is highpower systems, they are based in Doncaster, and have an excellent web site. (Regal use there products)

Is he the person that always claims he has a 15" knob by any chance?? :jog:

there's simply no way of doing this with this car.
He should have lots of power increase etc, but for me, nitrous does have its drawbacks.

I have a friend with a 1400 Polo, he has around 95ps & fires shots of nitrous of 30ps. You can feel the power and the car accelerates like mad, because the power increase is instant from the moment you press the button and does not "climb" up to +30 in say 300rpm or something.

To give you an idean, its like being at high revs with 2nd, then lifting your foot from the accelerator for a second or two and then flooring it again.

However, for your engine to be able to handle it you should'nt press the magic button more than 4-5 times a day max. Each time you spray nitrous at 3rd (at least with the Polo) at low revs, and you must NEVER hit the rpm limiter (i don't know the english word), because if you do, although the injectors stop spraying petrol in the cylinders, the nitrous is still sprayed and this is very harmful for the engine.

If you just want to have some extra power to overtake easily or for any other "legal" (heh!) reason, then its ok, but do not see it as an alternative to chipping because its not meant for this..

Confirmed my suspicions guys, thanks! I thought he could reliably have say 40 hp og nitrous sat under his bonnet but not any more. I'll have a look for more info on installations, and while I'm at it, I'll pass on a message to this Cavvy driver that he's a w***er and will challenge him to a race, me on mi TT600. If he's as quick as he says he is, he'll annihilate me! Place your bets now please!

He's got standard brakes, didn't see the car in daylight so couldn't see if they were scored or any other heat damage. It did seem a little head rattly when could, but I've noticed most 8v Cavvys can be like that.

I have no idea as to the size of his penis. Being that he was boasting about his car, I take it he has a non-functioning dick or may well as be non-functioning!

I'll check out the guys in Doncaster for info. Many thanks for your help guys...

Cheers

I live in Southampton so I'm gonna keep an eye out for this Cavalier. I can't say I've seen it so far. I wouldnt mind having a race if he thinks his car is so fast!

power wise he may be right BUT speed wise , lol check his tyres

i've seen a local V8 chevy with 7.0L big block running 250bhp primary and a 400bhp secondary - crap to use off the lights but from 40-120 stays with a fireblade , and the thing is HOOOOOGE
