View Full Version : Heads up
Would a VW 1.8 16v head fit the 2.0 16v ABF engine?
Done a search, but no joy.

yup
been there done that, kr head ported and flowed will out run a standard abf (kr ports are narrower but can be opened up).
standard kr head gives the same bhp and torque but 1k lower in the rev range.
think ive got rr graphs here somewhere if you want em.

also, the rocker cover has to be from the kr, head gasket is kr also iirc, a few rubbery bits also change on the rocker cover gasket due to a slight difference (this is why the kr rocker needs to be used)
ye i think brendy used a KR head from memory
*edit* DOH - sorry pressed go later than i thought - lol
Any noticable markings etc that denotes a KR from an ABF?

rocker cover looks different (not as many fins as the abf) and when compared to an abf side by side, the belt side of the head where the rocker cover gasket stops there is a difference also how it knurls over to the cambelt metal guide thing.
narrower ports noticeable too.
filler cap is older looking (youll see what i mean if you see one)
sorry some of this is a bit vague..

bingo stu!
in the bottom two pics, notice the size difference in port sizes, the kr can be opened up bigtime and breathes better than the abf, plus the kr cams = one rather nippy engine!
