79.9 here in Cheltenham. Don't forget - www.ispypetrol.com. (http://www.ispypetrol.com.) You might find there is a cheaper Shell garage in your area?

I don't want to appear a bit dim here like, but...
My car states on the inside of the fuel filler flap to only use 95RON petrol which would be normal unleaded.
Would I be right to believe that Optimax is Shell's own brand of Premium Unleaded which would be more like 97RON??? If so, how come you are using it? or are you all driving chipped and upgraded vehicles?
Can you use Optimax safely in the normal standard Ibiza Cupra? and does it make any difference to performance?
Cheers fella's... please let the dim one over here know (that would be me)..

It's 98+ RON (they don't say how much more than 98). I'm driving a standard 20vt.

I am and have noticed better performance, smoother delivery and better fuel economy (about 1/2mpg.) It says on the Optimax site that you can use it in any Unleaded car, whether sporty or not.

If you go to Shell web site, theres loads of info on optimax, as long as your cars unleaded, you can use it!. If you are using 95 move over to optimax cos you will see the difference.

Cheers for that fella's
I have a standard 1.8T 20v Cupra yeh that has 3500 miles on it (bought it brand new a few months ago).
I noticed the 95RON bit inside the flap but didn't notice it said 98RON..?? Will check before I next fill up so I know which pump to go to.
Oh sod it, I will stock Optimax in it anyway and see if I get any improved performance.
I am appearing to get a little bit of turbo lag, not sure if it is me getting use to the car and its acceleration or if possibly the DV is crapping out? I am taking it into the dealer tomorrow to try and get them to order me some Pagids and see if they will fit them so will ask them to check the DV while I am there.
Thanks for the info though fella's..

For the benefit of those who are not in the know. What does turbo lag feel like. Does the dump valve fail that quickly?
Your advice would be thankfully received.
76.9 for optimax here in bracknell :D :D :D

My filler cap states 95/91 RON ???? on a Ibiza Cupra 1.8 20VT ??? yet a friends 1.4 Ibiza shows 95/98 RON ???? how come ?
That sounds to me like a typo :D

It feels like the car hasn't any power when you press your foot down and then a couple of seconds later you get the kick.
There is a small amount of lag with the light pressure turbo on the Ibiza but if the DV has gone then it's exaggerated a lot.
The DV could fail quickly, depends on whether is was already in a bad shape when it was put in the car, it sounds like they're not too well made.

Petrol prices have just come down.. :D
76.9 per litre for Shell Optimax.. !! Nice.. :D
As for the dump valve thing, it would appear that they do crap out pretty quickly, I am getting loads more lag than I did when I got the car running properly after ~1000 miles (running in time). I reckon that the DV is leaking or something, possibly the diaphragm has split or something!?
My car is going in for some seat fixing and door de-squeaking on friday so I am going to ask them to take a look at the DV, and see if there is anything obviously wrong with it, not sure how they can check it apart from taking the car out which I am reluctant to let them do as I am having new EBC pads put on, on wednesday and so they will need bedding in and no hard braking.
Oh well, I will ask them the question, but knowing my lame dealership they will just say, "oh no there is nothing wrong with it, it must have been like that from the start you are imagining that you car feels like someone has stolen the engine out of it until it has managed to build up enough boost to start accelerating".. lol
Has anyone else had any troubles with their standard DV's? How can I get the dealer to put a new one on, do I just have to keep moaning? I don't want to put on a Forge one until I know that it is the DV and not something else that could be wrong.

Just thought I would add the new price following the drops over the recent week..
74.9p per litre for Shell Optimax in Willerby (near Hull)..
VERY NICE..!!
Having got onto my 4th tank, and having had my ecu reset and the boost pressures corrected by the dealership, my car is running sweet again, and very smooth with Optimax.. this stuff is actually good, and does what they claim it to do.. which is nice.

69.9 for unleaded and 74.9 for Opti , here in L'pool
Get the prices down with Gordon Brown !
If only it was true that the government had anything to do with it. :(
Actually its one of the few things we've benfitted from because of our mate in Afganistan Osama Bin Laden. :p
Due to the crisis that now is developing in the Aviation world due to the Sept 11th attocities, the demand for aviation fuel has dropped dramatically, as a result the refinaries have larger stocks of oil, so they have increased petrol production, hence lowering the price at the pumps.
Though i hope it lasts, if Opec decide to cut Oil production, which they probably will, the prices will rise and could potentially sky rocket. :(
Lets hope Opec has the good sense to keep the world economy ticking over, just like our cars.

Thanks Andy,
I think my DV is on the way out then. When I used to touch the accelerator in 6th the car would still push on but, now there seems to be that second or so lag you talk about. Don't remember it being like that before. Do you think I should get it changed under warranty or get a forge DV006?
PS. Optimax is 77.9P in Hertfordshire
Optimax = 73.9 down in Horley (Gatwick) and Leatherhead!
Its about time us southerners got something cheap!

73.9 in Derby as of yesterday - normal unleaded 69.9
I always use Optimax when I can, also if you have a Shell Pluspoints card you get double points at the moment on Optimax ... not that I care - I dont pay for my fuel anyway!!
Neil.:D
I started having problems with my Beezer 20vt which I put down to the DV being knackered. Fitted a Forge DV from SJB Sport, car runs miles better, especially noticable after gear changes with instant power. I think the Forge DV is the BO***CKS even on a standard car.
As for the optimax, I'll give it a try.

Interesting thread on the Honest John www site about Optimax and the effects one chap observed - an increase in mpg when using Optimax. He seemed chuffed with it.

Hmm, personally I'd recommend the DV006. If you're a bit paranoid about possible warranty/insurance co issues then get it swapped for free.
Down to you to decide really....
