SUSPENSION AND WHEEL SIZE FOR IBIZA CUPRA 20VT

reading through the various links on the forum, there are a number of varaints on suspension and wheel size setup, can anyone clarify why or is it down to personel choice

- Why are there set ups of 16" wheels and suspension kit and 17" wheels and suspension kit. Is one not better than the other ?

- are the 17" more for cosmetic or are they a better setup than 16" with a suspension kit.

- Is comfort comprimised with 17"

- Do 17" with standard suspension make a difference to the handling.

thanks

17's will compromise the ride quality (comfort) and can also b*gger up the handling - the combination of less tyre sidewall to provide springing and more unsprung weight from the bigger wheel are not a winning combination for handling.

If you're thinking of wheels, tyres and suspension kit and are serious about your handling & roadholding, i'd suggest you consider some 6.5Jx16" or 7Jx16" wheels which will allow you to use 205/45R16 tyres safely.

Hope that was of some help,

G

I believe mine is better with 17s, although being OZ Superleggeras they are very light and have reduced the unsprung weight significantly. the car isn't that bad in the handling stakes suprisingly, a bit hard but the standard set up is.

Saying that Glyn knows his stuff so the choice is yours Mike, as long as you go for 7" wide rims the looks are better either way.

I take it you are still running stock suspension set up wayne?
Ive stuck 17" Super Ts on but aint hit the suspension yet, loads of fun in the wet tho. TCS light goes daft

Yes standard at the moment, haven't decided what kit to get yet, everytime I think I've decided I hear about another  .

The car isn't bad now with a strut brace, but I think it just needs that bit more as it does scramble for grip when pushing hard like at Blyton last week. Goodyear Eagle F1s help alot in the wet, much more grip.

Bilsteins work for me, along with 7x16 rims.
Lowered approx 40mm, adjustable damping and ride height.

just a quick question, i know it has been answered before, but do your 17" Superleggera's fit on without any rubbing. Only that I have ordered 16" and wondering whether to increase the size while i've got time.

Cheers

Yes they are standard offset and have loads of room, I'm thinking of fitting spacers to the rear aswell.
