peeps

after deciding to rip out my carPC as i have had enough and want to reduce the stuff in my car, I have been looking at a BUDGET headunit and sat nav system.
I only use the satnav/mp3 from my carPC, and recon I can get both of these from 1 or 2 headunit sized equipment - I will keep my double DIN dash that I have.

Now, my requirements are:

Must play MP3s from a CD
Must have at least 1 pre-out/subwoofer out
Must supply sound to the 4 std channels in the car - prob 40w or something.

I want a relatively good brand - Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer.....

Anyone got anything similar, or some good links for me? I am gonna keep my double DIN dash, get a new facia for it and then use the other space for a few other bits - possibly some form of sat-nav....

So anyone got any sat-nav stuff that fits in a 1 DIN space? Probably a long shot....
Cheers

Whats up with the incar PC?

I've got an older Kenwood Mask MP3 Unit, Its great, 2pre outs and normal preouts too. I've got smart Nav but thats not cheap, but its the best on the market and the only one to offer traffic info and route updates and re-routing.

Get a TomTom Go Classic or the soon to be released TomTom One to mop up your sat nav needs. :)

want rid of the PC. Mainly as I have achieved what i wanted - but maintenance to keep it all running smoothly can be a pain. It really needs a redesign and layout, and i cannot be bothered to do it. The one problem i had - if the PC crashes you cannot shut off the volume so if u get an annoying looped sound or buzz or whatever, its usually loud - scares the sh*t outta you and can blow speakers. Its a fantastic idea - and i loved doing it all - but for some reason i just think that small is now beautiful - a nice little headunit can do the same as the carPC in the boot which essentially needs loads of space (amp, cabling, screen, keyboard etc etc)

I have ripped out the boot contents - just cabling to pull up now. However, I will leave the amp wiring and get a physically small amp enough to power a sub. Something simple. I dont spend enough time in my car with others for dvd/divx, games, speedcamera etc etc.

All i need is music/radio and directions :)

I’ve got a Sony CDX-NC9950 (http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.action?product=CDX-NC9950&site=odw_en_GB&pageType=Overview&category=ICM+Navigation) in the LCR and found it to be a very good headunit. But you have to add a sat-nav unit to it. I havn’t yet but that’s the plan for the future.

Blaupunkt (http://www.blaupunkt.co.uk/nav_sys_81.asp) also make head units with sat nav.

no reset button wouldnt really help - still had a lot of other issues that helped towards my decision - my wiring meant that the screen flickered due to voltage fluctuations (should use a stabiliser) sub interference, etc etc... just cant be bothered any more

Looks like its a nice unit that would/could match dash illumination well, and looks like it meets my needs...

I had THIS ONE (http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/86356/art/panasonic/car-radio-cd-mp3-cq-c1311.html#) in my Cordy, it was a fantastic piece of kit for the price!

More specs HERE. (http://www.panasonic.co.uk/cd-tuners/cqc1311/index.htm)
