I just noticed that there is a option for Cruise control for the VW Golf 1.8T GTI.
The upgrade cost is just £200.
Now, I know are engines are the same but what about other bits (Electrical). Probably not.
But I was just wondering if (for the Leon) it was a simple matter of checking out such a unit from VW and getting some advice...
Ummmm, from you guys and gals.
Any Ideas ? http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS CAN BE DONE

I would love cruise on the Leon...and at only 200 quid!!!! I would get it tomorrow...

Seat Leon 20v Cupra T
"L3ON CR" Silver and fully loaded.
RSD'd to ~210bhp :-)
I asked a dealer about it and they didn't have a clue, they suggested because of the 'fly-by-wire' throttle it could not be done (it is because of the throttle that no hardware, other than the stalk and wiring, is required).
I have had it retrofitted to my Leon by AMD.
It cost £323.
It involved using the Golf stalk and then
creating a wiring loom to the ECU.
It took about 3hrs for them to do it.

Bargain!
Fly by wire an advantage on this one.. Not requiring hardware other than switch. ECU must have the code ready for it perhaps, just wanting the hardware to work with it..
Cool.

My only concern would be what to do if 3 years down the line the cruise goes bang...can't take it to a dealer cos they know nothing about it! Will AMD service these items?
Like the idea of usnig the Golf stalk - presumably it looks no different to the Leon one except it has the cruise switches...

That all sounds good to me.
Think I will give them a call.

Toledo V5 has cruise so you could probably use the stalk's from that, just plug in and away you go. Guaranteed to match then seeing as the rest of the dash is identical.

What are your comments / opinions about this Flapper / Swinny?
Are you able (And willing) to do this, if it works? I would certainly pay a couple of hundred quid for cruise control - I had it on my last car, and miss it badly!
It would also be handy on the Leon Cupra as I find myself getting faster and faster on the motorway without realising it!
Stevo.

Because it is a function of the ECU then if it is a problem with the ECU, replacement of the ECU would solve it. Stalk problem - replace stalk. Wiring problem - follow the wire and replace that. I realise it is a risk, but a very small one.
I got it because: (i) got stopped on the M4 at ban speeds and just got away with a fixed penalty, (ii) it is so much easy commuting between the South West and London with it.
I looked into importing - but even imports dont have cruise as an option on the 20vt.
The stalk is exactly the same (apart from the controls).
The TDi is the same (all the current VAG tdi engines) - they are all fly-by-wire and so the same applies. AMD also offered to do my A6 tdi.

When i ordered my new ibiza cupra, there WAS (!) an option of cruise control, which i did not choose. So, if it is available for the ibiza it should be also available for the leon. I'm not sure in UK spec though.
------------------
I looked into importing an Ibiza Cupra and there was no cruise control option!
There were lots of other options though that you can't get over here including ESP and Rainsensor pack... Flapper/Amethyst guys, why aren't these things available over here?
Can you add them? If so then how much for?
cheers
Ben

There seem to be lots of differences between markets. I could have been ordering everything (!) for the ibiza cupra except for TCS which is not standard here. They "force" you to buy the full ESP instead.
Though, i repeat, cruise control is available for us (hungarian market).
------------------
Why do manufacturers think they know best? Why can't they make all options available in all countries?
Yes, its fair enough to change what is 'standard' equiptment in each country/market, but why can't they make everything else an option?
I really wanted ESP and I nearly bought an import to get it!
------------------
unfortunately the main reason is the country itself , for example its illegal in greece to own a diesel unless its is a bus/taxi/truck http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/confused.gif go figure ???
other reasons are country types/climate , we as a country are the ones that manufacturers realise WANT THE LOT , they know it but try to refine the models to suit the market prices in each vehicle class , greedy buggers aint we , i see the problem from both sides , MERCEDES have the right idea , you buy a car from an order form , pick a model and tick off the spec/trim/engine etc that you want , mind you it makes for some wierd and wonderful cars i can tell ya http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/rolleyes.gif

I know yow can add cruise control to most of the diesels in teh VAG range by simply adding the stalk and coding the ECU to reconise it? No use to you tho!

Audi tech
Is that true, so your saying I can get a Toledo TDi SE stalk and fit to my Leon TDi SE and ask "Someone"???? to re-configure it and it will work http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/biggrin.gif

Forgot to ask, who/where is AMD??

For TDis somebody has done a page:
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/5067/tdiccs/ccs.html
for my Leon 20vt they had to create a wiring loom.
