ok guys

I am in need of inspiration, and hopefully someone to advise me on where i can get it made....

I am doing a new boot install. Now, this is NOTHING bling/full-on, a great example of something similar to what I am after is in Petes (ICEMAN)s missus' Leon.....

I want to have as much bootspace left as possible. For ICE, I will have 1 10" subwoofer and 1 physically small amplifier (something just enough to power the sub - nothing major just cheapish)

I wanted a stealthbox made by Auto Acoustics. However, after emailing them they state it definately WILL NOT fit into my car as I have the rear-strut brace fitted. (As in RobDons) I struggle to believe them as from the pics on their website it looks like it will fit - however they will not supply dimensions so I am a bit stuck.

Perhaps if someone on here has one they could let me know?

Other than that, can u post up ur pics of ur install (I am not really interested in boots FULL of ICE, just stealthy ones.
cheers all

That install might actually be for sale, CupraRrog off here bought it off me but he has sold his R now and might still have the boot build.

any more people out there? Surely Pete isnt the only one with a stealthy install?

I have not got the ability or time to do it myself - i will have to go to one of those pro ICE installers and get them to do one based on my ideas. Not sure how much they will charge tho :(

What dimensions are you after for the stealthbox?

Pabs

basically, if u have a look at this picture:
www.btinternet.com/~twister9/rearbrace/whole.jpg

and this one:

www.btinternet.com/~twister9/rearbrace/side3.jpg

These show my rear brace - the brace itself is pretty much directly above the carpet button that holds the carpet to the side of the car.

Does the sub box cover this? How far away is it from this button? If it doesnt cover it, then in theory it should fit.
cheers buddy

oh, and thats a 12" sub u got yeh? I want to mount a small amp to the subbox itself if possible...

I'll nip out and take a look at the box now

Yeah its a 12" sub (infinity vq) , no room on the box to fit an amp though!!

Pabs

i am planning on a 10" version... and a small amp.... might be lucky.

Box stops 60mm to the left of that carpet plug

Hope that helps

6cm to the left - ie it should have plenty of space then!

Matey, u r a STAR. Think I might risk ordering one at some point - auto acoustics are obvioulsy talkin out their arses again!

By the way, what do u hold it onto the side of the car with - the supplied velcro or something a bit stronger? And I assume u dont use ur boot light anymore?

Ju.

It's held in with the supplied velcro, but it fell over a few times and is now minus the perspex cover  , but it's stayed put now for a few months

Sounds nice though, much better than the previous standard box I had.

I wired an "iceled tron" as a boot light cos as you say , the original one is covered!

Pabs
21-11-2005, 00:45
scotty - thats my thoughts too - want to keep the spare really. Not sure why, i just do. I want my install to be very simple and OEM looking really.

A cross to RobDons and petes i would say, i want to show off my 18 inches!

Got no subs and amp tho!

Have been quted 1k for everything, subs amps and full stealth install

Pabs

suppose thats quite a good price - whos doing the install?

Scotty_b
21-11-2005, 00:55
That was LM Audio in herts, not a final quote just a rough guide what id bee looking at for a full custom stealth looking set up

I though it was a good price but maybe a bit much for what i want

theres me quibbling over a £150 sub box... lol
Personally i am keeping a sub purely to add whats missing from the standard speaker setup in the leon - i am not a bass junkie i just like to have a bit of umph occassionally.

From a £30 to a £300 subwoofer i cant tell the difference really (to warrant the extra dosh anyway) so i am happy with a cheapish sub and then a cheapish amp(and small) to go with it. I just dont want the cheap-looking install of a boom-box. Its almost like I am trying to create an install that Seat could have fitted as standard - nothing special just looking factory.

Scotty_b

so you just going to mod what you have?

Pabs
21-11-2005, 01:44
well, i have cleared out my current ICE (carPC and amp at least) and i still have 2x 10" subwoofers and two std boxes for them.
I will stick at least 1 of the subs into the freeads - possibly sell as a pair or seperately. Any money i get for them is a bonus. If I keep 1, then i use that for my new install - if i dont then i perhaps upgrade the sub slightly to something a little nicer, but NOTHING major.
The only issues at the moment I have are sub box and amp - i am gonna pick up a cheap SPLX or similar amp (i know they aint much cop but all they gotta do is power 1 sub) and sort out some form of stealthbox/install for the sub/amp to go in.

Biggest 2 problems i have are rear strut brace (not 100%sure if a stealthbox will fit but there is only 1 way to find out :( ) and i have a seat boot-tidy tray - this certainly wont fit if i get a stealthbox, so i will have to sell it.

I haven't got a picture to hand, but am about to invest in a stealthbox for my sub. Saw Nobbers install last week and it was much better.

Although I love the look of the fancy installs cant help but think it goes against the ethic of all the performace mods I've fitted. MDF in sheets isn't light particularly when you add subs, amp etc...

I have a 5 channel Alpine V12 amp, but when I tap the sub onto it there is a discernable drop off in the performance of the components. Also the sub sounds weak. I may use my 2 channel DSL amp from my old Lupo install to power the sub and tap it onto the back of the stealthbox.

Will I need to upgrade my power supply cables / fuses or add a capacitor reservoir to maximise the performance when running 2 amps? Sub is a 12" sealed box Alpine R type 2+2ohm.

What cable do you have down the car atm? Cap won't help, but you may find upgrading the battery -ve to chassis might help along with a chunkier cable down the car.

warren_cox

can't remember what AWG the cable is but its quite thick. I also have an autoleads junction splitter to split the amp supplies off.

Always use the thickest earthing cable I can following an 'episode' with a buzzing amp that I had in a Mk2 Golf. Never realised good earthing made such a difference!

not a good pic as i just lobbed sub in - everything else is 'as is', as I'm no install genie. Sub is currently out as the box gets in the way in current box.

CD multichanger will end up in glovebox if at all (may leave it out in favour of iPod), and I can uses DVD's in head unit which gives me upto 600 tracks on one disc with mp3 encoding.
