Just had a thought about my FMIC, with all the crap thats on the road at the moment will it have any corrosion effect on the material?

Mine is lookin pretty dirty and cleaning it isnt that easy.

Thanks.

Would engine de-greaser and a sprinkle of water work?

Jet wash the thing just don't get right up close with the lance.

I used a squirt off alloy wheel cleaner aswell brought it up a treat.

yeah! don't leave it on too long or it might start attacking the alloy !

And we could do without that.

The nature of the aluminium means it with weather particularly with the salt and shite on the uk roads, over time it will discolur to a dullish grey .

The only real way to stop this is to apply a small amount of paint .

You could use something like Alloy Wheel protector too i guess, once you've cleaned it, spray on.

mesh won't stop no road kil.

The best road kill i have ever seen is at TRAX a few years ago, a guy in a 106 GTi jit a rabit and his splitter took the rabbits head clean off and it was just sitting on top of the Splitter in the mesh, it looked like a mascot, he was'nt happy cos it was stuck in the mesh and no one else would take it out, proper grueseome

Hmm alloy wheel protector is quite a good idea!

Would painting it black improve the efficiency of it slightly?

you might want to try a thin layer of clearcoat. I usually paint my bling bling shiny bits black to match all the dead mosquitos...

The factory intercoolers are anodised to stop corrosion of the aluminium, because of this the pores of the aluminium are very small. Thus they easier to keep clean because dirt doesn't stick as well.
