View Full Version : How do I remove my head unit?
Just got a new Ibiza TDi Sport and want to put my own head unit in it. It comes with the 'Alana' radio as standard, and there are two small slots on the bottom edge of the unit where I expect you put some tool in. Question is, can I extract this unit without a special tool or do I need to ask a dealer to extract it? (I have some thin blade like tools for a kenwood unit which seems to loosen the right side of the unit but not the left side)

Is it like this?
On my Sony headunit it's got both slots, and both should work, butone jammed, I got frustrated & ripped my dash off. It might be worth asking the dealer to do it? that way if they break it... they fix it.

Thats the one! I will have another gentle try before asking the dealer I think.
What model is that car?
Same as yours - I pulled the pic from Ryan's review here (http://www.seatcupra.net/reviews.php?descrip=TDi130)

Thought I recognised the pic from somewhere!
Oh, one more thing...
Do you know what sort of connectors I will find when I get this unit out - standard ISO stuff?
Not got a Tdi130 (resisting temptation), but there is no reason why they would do anything other than fit ISO as they do on all their cars. Might have to buy an adaptor from Halfords?

Did we ever establish how to get that Alana out as I have the same problem. Cheers.
Cut up credit cards in the bottom slots, or the proper VAG keys will do it. Hellfrauds should do them also.
I got given a set of keys from my VW dealer and they worked a treat.
Cutting up the credit card is prob the best method if you asked me missus, so how much are these keys from hellfrauds..... hehehehe!
£3.99 IIRC.
Probably cheaper from VW/SEAT/Skoda/Audi to be honest!
Prob be cheaper if I used the credit card, about £3000 cheaper....... hehe
if its really stuck you can pull out pocket under it and twist unit out.
is last resort if release catches are damaged but shouldnt damage anything

This is the easiest one to remove
just cut up a credit card into slot sized slices the long way
remove the plastic tray thing and put as hard as you can the two plastic 'keys' you made into the slots.
I think the left one is harder to push in but it does go.
once they are all the way in pull it from underneath using your hand and it should slide right out.
the connectors are ISO and you may need an aerial adaptor to turn it into male to fit your new radio.
also you need to swap the red and yellow wires in the harness with your new radio to keep the radio settings when the power is off.
and also you will need the aerial power thing spoken on here before to turn the powered aerial on with the new radio.
I have done this loads of times and is very easy!!
