hi.....,

I just bought some Pioneer 6x9s and im making a parcel shelf for my ibiza. Just a few questions:

There is a wire hanging out at the back with a non-standard connector. Can I use this cable for my 6x9s? I assume i'd have to rewire it..anyone done this? :confused:

How important is acoustic carpet? Would using some other cheap thin carpet do the trick?

Also, is it recomended to re-attach the rubber pully, so the shelf lifts when the boot is opened? Since it'll be fairly heavy, I dont want to put unnecessary strain on it. And, what will be a good thing to use as an axle for it to swivel on?

Thanks fellas!

Hi,

If the wire has a square connector i think its for the CD changer.
:cheers:

Its a brown rectangular connector, and theres two cables on each side of the parcel shelf. Each cable consists of a brown/red wire and a green/blue wire. The cables are just below a speaker grill (6x4 I think) at the back. Btw, its a 1999 Ibiza TDI if that helps.

I've got an April 2002 Ibiza and watched the guys from Ripspeed/Halfords install my 6x9's and stealth shelf (they didn't charge for the installation).

My original cables are red+blue/brown+blue and red+green/brown+green. The original connectors for my rear 6x4 speakers are black and rectangular with VW and Audi logos on them. They didn't fit my 6x9's.

Each speaker cable (right and left) was cut. Connectors were used to join new speaker cable (Quicksilver series by Phoenix Gold) to the existing cable and the new cable to the speakers.

Halfords also added connectors to the cables which were still attached to the original connectors. This is so that I can put the original shelf back in and reconnect the original 6x4s.

Hope this helps,

David

But which colour wire is left and which is right?

In my car:

Left = red+blue/brown+blue

Right = red+green/brown+green

Thanks,

David

Oops, sorry! I meant which is negative and positive, not left and right lol.

I've had a look at my car and it looks like the red wire goes to the red terminal on the speaker and the brown wire goes to the black terminal. That certainly sounds like the most sensible option. However, you may want to double-check with someone who knows what they're talking about.

Incidentally, you will need extra cable and connectors as the standard cable is only just long enough to reach the original 6x4's.

Thanks,

David

Normally by convention red = + and brown = -.
