Hi all,

As some fo you may know i have been having problems with my car, for those of you that don't, put it this way, since i have bought it i have taken it back to the zoo (sorry i mean seat garage), not that i am calling that mechanics a bunch of monkeys, but anyway i have taken it back more times than i have had hot dinners.

Well they had my car for two weeks supposedly fitting a new gear box, after what seemed a year later i was phoned for me to go and pick it. I arrived and it was so nice to get out of the bake bean can (courtesey car) and back into a proper car, seats were comfortable, the engine burbled away, my dream was soon to vanish!!

I drove out of the garage, got halfway down the road and my gf pointed out that my warning light and ABS light were on and also the EXHAUST WAS STILL RATTLING!!!

i was furious so i pulled down a side road to turn around, started todrive back.....BANG, the gear box and clutch both went....

This is after a new Catalic, new exhaust, new heat shield, new gear box, i lost all drive in the car and had to pull over, i immediatley phoned them up and the mechanics came down and and lloked at the car and were to say the least looked confused and were very apolegetic. Again i found myself back in the bake bean can and off on my way home again.

Fortunately i went on holiday the next day so i did not need a car for two weeks but that is not the point.

I got back and picked up the car on the saturday just gone, so far all is ok and it seems to be pulling alot better but there s still a slight rattle on the exhaust, this i am going to leave now as i am getting my Magnex exhaust in the coming months.

Can you believe, i suppose i am having a bad run with my car as i have had no problems with my last 2.

I should complain and ask for petrol as it is quite a journey to the garage and a months insurance which is costing me £230 a month (cos of my age and lack of no claims!), FAT CHANCE i will get that.

Not a happy customer but then who would be after all of the above!!

I'd kick right off! bang on about on about the money spent i.e. the petrol, insurance, monthly payments etc.

You probably wont get far but you might get a free service out of it.

Go on son, give em hell!!!

I have an 8v cupra and its exhaust also rattles, must be a common problem. It worries me non though as you say the rattle will be gone when I also replace it with an aftermarket item.

Sorry to hear about your troubles mate. The rattle could be your heatshield. Mine went about a year ago, got it fixed under warranty but the rattle has been back for a while and not got any worse (yet!). Mine only rattles under certain engine loads or speeds.

my flippin heat shields dropped 3 times, and since some powerflow monkeys fitted the new exhaust (you know who you are Exeter powerflow!!) it knocks on the rear beam. going to try and sort it out on sunday.
Its only little things, but drives you mad!

Heatshield thing is annoying, especially now the weather is good enough to have the windows down. The noise mine makes realy makes people jump if you drive down a quietish road with high fencing or sthing that de/reflects the noise! Have to turn up the music even louder!

Heatshield.

I had a 2.0 16v a while back and the heatshield rattled, but courtesy of a 11mil spanner it was one. No rattle. easy.

As I tell my wife, stop moaning and get on yer back.

While we're on about shoddy dealers, how does 2 weeks to replace a busted window regulator (under warranty) strike anyone? It was only when I got stroppy and demanded they arrange secure storage of my car and a courtesy car until it was fixed that they actually wedged the window shut...

It's funny you should say that..... when I bought mine I looked at 2 Ibiza's, one in Sidlow, East Grinstead and one in Westerham Seat in Westerham. Both were black, both Cupra's, both had done about 4500 miles, both were in immaculate condition and both were priced £11495. One crucial difference however.... the one in Sidlow was on a "Y" plate and the one at Westerham Seat was a "51" reg. I was haggling with the price of my part ex and the guy was offering the same as Westerham were. The salesman said so do we have a deal? I said of course we dont have adeal, I can get a newer car for the same money with the same part ex price up the road. He couldnt understand this though!
