Chris
ps for comparison other cars im looking at are
vectra gsi 2.6
mondeo st200
leon cupra
midcuk,
The V5 is quick. It also is one of the best sounding engines in any car I have driven with the exception of the twin turbo Mazda RX7 (And that is a long list
Trust me, when you drive it you will want one!!!
I thought that the Toledo also came with the 1.8 20vt engine aswell now, so you could alway's go down that route if you think that the V5 is to slow.
I have driven both the Leon 20VT and Toledo V5 and they are both very quick car's, the Leon has a very snappy power deliver were the Toledo V5 is more relaxed and sounds great.
Take one for a drive you will not regret it

Make sure its the V5 20V which is the 2001 onwards model. Sounds bloody excellent.
Chris, how are you, long time no speak.
Fancy a track day this year?
Trax too if you are quick see Pipsqueek aka Phill Parker (yella Leon)
I like the Toledo, but it doesnt hold its price aswell as the Leon.
The mondeo eats juice, and depreciates quickly (especially now new shape is out) Same goes for vectra (old shape or new shape?)
But i guess you expected these answers already ;)
take it easy, speak soon

Chris,
My dad has a V5 and is chuffed to bits with it. Its not really the type of car that you want to thrash all the time but the power is their when you want it. The engine is very refined (its nearly impossible to hear at idle) and the gearing is spot on.
My dads has the sat nav system that doesnt really get used much so i wouldn't worry about that unless you regularly go to places unfamiliar. If you are going for a second hand one make sure its the 170bhp one not 150bhp. I would expect the 150bhp ones loose their value a little more.
Not my cup of tea, i'd rather have a cupra but as a smooth powerful car with loads of toys you can't go wrong.
Cheers.
Damian.
Recently borrowed a V5 for a week from Bournemouth SEAT, very nice car, expect to see the review and pics up very soon.
Oh yea, I also managed to get an indicated "145" along a "private road"

Oh yeah, he just got it serviced today (10k miles) for £99. Cha Ching!
Vauxhall GSi - My opinion a real rep mobile. Its a vauxhall not a new driving phenomenon!
ST200 - I don't know about this version but the ST24 is one of the worst depreciating cars on the road.
Leon Cupra - This is what i want. Holds it value pretty well too.
Cheers.
Damian
I've just part ex'd a V5 150 for a TT225. Toledo is a good car and when I bought the Toledo it was that or a Leon Cupra. I thought the V5 sounded better and was a bit smoother, the Cupra is quicker in everyday driving, but both flat out there didnt seem to be a load of difference. The 170 I would imagine could be quicker than the Cupra in certain places. I did think the finish of the car was better on the Toledo than the Leon though.
You'll want to try both Toledo and Leon, as the power delivery is very different - Leon prob more fun. I would say though the Leon has to be better on petrol (my TT is doing more mpg than the Toledo!) and will lose less money though, the toledo does have more toys to play with.
IMO the Toledo and Leon look better than the Vectra and Mondeo easily.
Matt
Thanks All and Hi Saul
normally at work i cant use the net only email hence since the demise of smartgroups i cant get on much.
Not sure which v5 it is, ideally i would like a leon cupra but there aint any round here and the ones that are are silly money, not really sure what to get, gonna try the v5 next weekend see what its like, got about 10-12k 2 spend and want a fast 4 door car (family shortly)any ideas ?
need to decide what im doing so i can book for track days etc (dont wanna take a place up if i end up without a seat.
Mpg was a bit of a worry for me on the cars i like but i only do 6k a year so it doesnt really affect me.
cheers

I have had my V5 for a couple of months and I am really impressed with it. I too wanted something quick but practical and was toying with either a Leon Cupra or a V5. I choose the Toledo because it has all the toys and the V5 engine is almost as quick as the Leon but sounds much better. It is a more relaxing car but that is what I wanted.
I get around 35 mpg on a gentle motorway cruise which isn't too bad although it averages around 30mpg. I guess in town it would quickly drop to mid 20's.
Everyone who has seen the car is impressed with it. The interior is nice and I like its understated external looks.
Other cars I thought about were the Octavia RS or one of the VW PD TDI's. They are quick but the V5 sounds better!
Isn't the V5 some two groups lower than a Leon as well. Could mean alot of difference to some people.
