View Full Version : Boost gauge fitting
I'm getting a boost gauge tonight and need some advice, which pipe do I tap into on the engine? If somebody has got a picture of the engine bay and could highlight the point or could describe were it is, that would be great.
Cheers,
Brian
Miffer,
sorry mate cant anwser your question, however I fancy getting a boost gauge same as yours - I couldnt see the pod on the apexinternational site - could you point me in the right direction ?
Thanks
Ovv
I dont think that the pod is on the site (i could not find it), but I just gave them a call on 01274 427757 and asked if they did them. They do and they had them in stock. They are £16.50 for the matching pod to the Autometer gauge.

Tapping point to connect to can be on the LHS (as viewed looking into the engine bay). There is a pipe leading off towards the servo from the inlet manifold. Approx 1/2 " diamter black pipe. Not far down this pipe, from the manifold side is a non-return valve. This valve has a 3rd exit covered by a Green cap (I think from memory). You can connect to this as your manifold sourced boost pressure.
Amethyst use this as the tapping point.

Bill
that is right mate , and when you take your a piller trim poke a screwdriver through the bulkhead as part in of the join it is silicone so you can go straight through (no holes to drill)

Hi, Guys, done this today but not getting a reading or air coming through pipe in car. Could my non-return valve be wrecked as i did snap the green thing off? Could this be replaced with a t-piece?? How much is a new non-return valve??
Hi People,
I have an auto meter boost gauge which I bought with a pillar mount pod.
With a little bit of cutting of the pod it fits spot on. Now the boost gauge pipe can connect to several places, but one of most accurate readings I have found has been off a pipe need the Inlet.
Now if you take the engine cover off and you are looking straight at the engine, you are looking for a green plug which is located on a pipe near the inlet and next to the washer bottle in the bottom left hand corner. This plug needs taking out and you can connect your gauge up.

n1 lads the much needed info i was lookin for as my revotec boost gauge arrived today :)
What i also need to know, can anyone explain to me or point me in the direction of a guide, on how to wire the ilumintation bulb into the lighting circuit, as i would not know where to start.
Would u recommend this part being done by someone who knows what there doing, ie auto electriction.

Wiring for the bulb is easy, its only two wires that go behing the light switch (switch that turns headlights on n stuff!) Got mine today too. didnt work on the green cap though had to plumb into fuel pressure regulator hose with t-piece but works all the same
heres wiring piccy:

got home from work, and with only 30 mins or so light left planned to wash the car, but the bonnet was straight up instead :)
Thought i'd have a quick look for the green nipple, well u can't miss it really can u, so decided i'd take it off, and test me boost gauge off that point.
Well after many try's of trying to pull the green nipple off, i was getting quite annoyed, pair of plyer's later, and sum reshaping of the nipple, and off it comes, then back into the house to get boost gauge and body to rev the car so i can see if it works or not.
Its reading, but -0.7 bar, when u rev it hard in neutral, it amost reached -0.2, when the engines off it reads 0, so am i to understand, that when driving, and theres more compression it will read + (supose i'll find out soon enough).
Well by this time it was dark, so tomorrow morning the fun and games will begin, hopefully i won't brake anything ie dash :( in the process, when its all done i'll get some piccies.
indeed, under load it will go +'ve

Any one got any tips on how to fit the pod to the "A" pillar?

Erm i lined up where i wanted it to go, took the rough shape of the A piller, cut the pod to match, then smoothed it down with some wet and dry, i then held the pod against the A piller and marked the best place for the screws to go, I then got some brass screws and started them in the pod, then one by one screwed them into the A frame, i used screw's just long enough to bite into the plastic.
Decided i would screw it on, so it can be easyly taken on and off, when i finished tidying it up i'll get the photo's taken so i can show u.

Its reading, but -0.7 bar
Hence why some older n/a cars used to have vacuum gauges.
Dor.
P.S That green nipple is infact part of the brake vacuum pipe. 15 quid after I dropped a small bucket (filling washers) on it and snapped it off.
