View Full Version : component speakers
Sorry if that was asked before...
what size do i need to fit in my leon? (5,5.5,6,6.5?)
which would replace the OE that is.
TIA
If you build some spacers out of MDF or Fibre glass etc.. you can fit 6.5 if you want its up to you?? What sort of music do you listen to??
:fag:
i prefer my quality over power
currently happy with the quality but feel its lacking the power
in some areas.
i listen to alot of dance music and lots of rythem based music.
thought of just fitting a sub and somehow tuning door speakers
to mid-range only then its perfect component but i dont think the door speakers will be up to the task.
and by the time i'll have the extra bass, the treble volume wont be sufficiant to accompany.
so if i go for a sub i might as well upgrade the component system
i want to keep the Aura unit for now.
If your not shore about amping them up pick carefully as some will suffer with the relative low power standard unit running them:(
Other wise spend as much as poss on a quaility set on components you would proberley prefer 5/14" as to 6" as specialy if your going to use a sub:)
What sort of money do you want to spend??
Not much ........i got bits and pieces from other cars
like an Alpine V12 amp that still go strong i might use it to power
the sub and i will need 2 sets of components and that might be
pricy car comes standard with 8 speakers i wouldnt want to go
lower then that.
spend your money on the front components this is where all your sound comes from a sub only produces a small part of the sound so why spend a lot of money on it ?
the bigger the front speakers you can get in the better these will help produce more mid bass the bigger the speaker you get. you can with a little fiddling get 61/2" speakers in the front of a leon no problem. these will sound better than a smaller speaker, try and make a small mdf ring to mount the speaker on and try and use a little dynamat in the doors to stop the panels rattling as much.

i thought the leon was 5.25 anyway if i could go for 6.5 even better, guess you right the front is most importent.

All,
I've checked out a few 'common'car audio brochures (pioneer, kenwood, alpine etc) and they all appear to recommend a 17cm speaker, along with a custom spacer they provide, to fit the Leon.
Some even claim to provide a component set including a tweeter which fits the original location.
I'd be happy to supply the relevant part numbers if anyone is interested.
I'd be equally happy to test a set of speakers in my 'forthcoming' Leon ! :)
17cm is the eqivalent of a 6 1/2" speaker the adaptors can be bought from most good independant i.c.e stores or if needs must halfords
one word of warning though to change the speakers you will have to remove the old ones obviously but these are riveted into the car so the use of a hand held drill will be required....
