Component question ???

I realise I need 17cm speakers in the front but a friend of a friend is selling a decent set of 13cm ones. My question is, is it possible/viable to put 13cm in instead of 17cm or is just too tricky ?

You would have to make a plate that fitted the 3 screw OE points, then you would have to push it out to so the back of the speaker cleared the window, then make it a 5" hole in the middle to fit the speaker, unless they are £XXX speakers going really cheap, i'd stick to 6.5" with the adaptors, too much hassle otherwise IMO

I today heard from a I.C.E expert and he's informed that it is possible to fit 13cm speakers in the front with no hassle whatsoever.

Apologies, i thought it was a 20VT ibiza, not a Mk2, it will be easier to fit them to a Mk2 as you can screw to the OE speaker mounting plate.

Just remeber, you can be limited by the magnet size in the doors, check you have clearance with the windows, as they pass very close behind the Speaker door bracket.

Nothing worse than spending lots of time fitting lovely components, only to find that when you open your windows they smack against the magnets.

So make sure you check the clearance.

so in the front the speakers are 17"/6.5 yes? what about the back ones? and what can you do with those tweeters on dashboard? im thinking about replacing them with proper speakers and fitting an aftermarket set of tweeters somewhere else what do you think?

Front and back speakers in a Leon are 17cm jobs. You can fit smaller easy, just get the 17cm speaker adapters and then fit an MDF ring to that with a 13cm hole in it. Or make your own spacers out of MDF 18cm in diameter with a hole for the speaker you've chosen.

http://www.icecavern.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1116 shows how I got an 18cm driver in the door of a Leon, and I only used a 25mm thick MDF spacer. ;)
