Nice Baz, car kinda looks familiar to me.

Were the black cupra rims old rims? Do you swap them to run the 1/4?

Daz, i always put the std wheels back on for winter but i got bored with them so i painted them, £45 later job done. Baz the master sprayer..... well not yet. lol

Not fussed which wheels i use for the 1/4 just what evers on the car, 17's are quicker at the mo but they've got F1's and the 16's have michelin exalto's so not really a fair test. The black wheels will be for sale in march when the ice etc has gone and i'll get to fit the superL's & brembo's(had them since Nov still in box)

The mouse!! the car was left in the garage for a few days with the bonnet up and when i went to fit the evo gasket we found the little bugg*r in an IC pipe that had been removed. tame wee fu*ker!!

looks ace, is that a sprinter vent your fitting into the wing?

got any finished pics of it

keep up the good work

cuprabaz
20-01-2006, 18:32
Yip sprinter vent.

Wing was done yesterday, i'm told all the arches are nicely rolled now so no rubbing with the spacers and the 17's, still to repair the door, fit Polo Gti wing mirror then prep the car for painting.

andy_dea
20-01-2006, 18:38
cool, how did you get a sprinter vent on a passenger side?

or have you just reformed the sprinter driver side vent for pass?

get some pics up when finished

B19_TSH, caught the sump once on a driveway gate stop, lowered, 55-60mm.

ian_jobson, spacers are 15mm Eibach.Exhaust is AM Motorsport 3"dp&100cell race cat, custom 2.5" centre no box and dpmotorsport can.

The car is on the road to recovery at last. Although i thought the insurance might refuse to pay up as they said my bodyshop was too expensive and because of this they would send round an inspector to carry out a full inspectiopn of the car!!!:wtf: So the insurance inspector appeared, walked around the car once and that was it, no inspection what so ever.

I've alsway toyed with the idea of a carbon bonnet so i thought this was the perfect opportunity to get one. All being well it should be back on the road with in a month, slightly lighter normal!!

dannyk
15-04-2006, 23:15
Good to hear baz, the bonnet will look nice with the dark wheels.

Cheers

Danny

cuprabaz
16-04-2006, 00:08
The dark wheels are getting sold because the Cupra R brakes are still sitting gathering dust and the superL's are going back on. I have thought about spraying the graphite grey but i'm not convinced.

cuprabaz what gauges are you using in your centre console ??

hell of a nice car there!! are you still using water injection if so where have you hidden your pump?

cuprabaz
19-10-2006, 12:54
cheers.

The pump is below the vent behind the bumper. Only started using it again last week so i've got no idea what the power figure is at after having the IC and water injection on. Need more boost though.

Got my tranmission stuff sitting waiting to be fitted, i've had the clutch sitting for a whole year now:redface:

- Peloquin ATB Differential
- G60 XTD stg 3 6 plate "MIBA" cooper ceramic clutch
- G60 Flywheel & longer bolt kit
- Vibra Technics Fast Road Mounts(Front/Rear & Gearbox)

Is there anything else anyone can think of that i'd be best replacing while this lot is getting fitted?

Hi Baz,

If you don't mind could you let me know what the above bits set you back and if you have the part numbers / distributor details? I'm in the same boat as you, if i'm doing the clutch i'll also be doing the diff and fitting my vibratechnics mounts too!

It's amasing to see what bit's I've still got kicking around un-fitted, a lot of bits are getting fitted this week but the Aquamist and B&M Quickshifter will still be sat gathering dust!

Had the car RR'd last night, first time since fitting the FMIC & Exhaust manifold. Last time it got 238bhp & 252lbf-ft with an ambient temp of 4 deg C. Last night it was 5 deg C and the little bugger got 251bhp & 253lbf-ft.:D

The boost has risen from 16psi constant up to 20psi then settling at 18 since fitting the 3"dp / FMIC / Exhaust manifold.

High flow manifold is well worth getting imho.

Fitted my VT fast Road engine mounts last week, took me about 2.5 hrs in total. The front mount and the gearbox were pretty straight forward but he Rear engine mount was a little fiddly.

Cuprabaz: Did you notice any difference when driving?? Im about to change my mounts to the same VT as you got. Did you put the car on axel stands, remove the bolt on the old mount and jacked the engine carefully up??? Any tip along the way??

Prebs

cuprabaz
09-08-2008, 15:11
Not had it out on the road yet as it's still up on axle stands getting the suspension overhauled. But there was a noticable amount of vibration. Saying that it'll never be back on the road, track car from now on.

Yeah that's what I did. The rear engine mount was a pain in the hoop space wise.

cuprabaz
13-08-2008, 00:23
More progress this week.

I dropped my G60 flywheel off at AGRA Engineering to be lightened and balanced so that should be ready soon.

While fitting my rear ARB i noticed that the alloy spring platforms of my coilovers were cracked, turned out all 4 were totally corroded and crumbling. Coilovers were removed, buffed down, greased, painted and new platforms fitted. I also fitted the front ARB and lower brace. The lower brace needed some adjustment to allow the holes to match up.

Looking forward to seeing it at KH next year

cuprabaz
02-10-2008, 23:38
Josh i'll let him know but i doubt he'll be selling up any time soon.:p

Not much rivalry as they weren't on the road at the same time for long. Mine is 0.4 faster on the 1/4 which doesn't sound much and isn't much on the road.

Allen my car was overfuelling badly hence the lack of MOT so that night shouldn't count:lol: Plus i had a passenger

Fingers crossed i'll have it all finished in time for next years track days. Wouldn't mind seeing what it does on the 1/4 with everything out if before the cage goes in. Bet it'll beat Al's car as it stands.......

Al
17-12-2008, 17:27
Remap now eh? :p

Did not take much for me to talk you in to that

When are the spacers etc going on?

More importantly, when is RAF Ned Racer going to be back in the world of the living again? You got the inside colour scheme sorted out yet?

cuprabaz
17-12-2008, 18:05
Remap at some point:p

Spacers before new tyres but not sure when.

It's back in the land of the living just very bare, colour scheme will be black seats, matt black metal and red harnesses! Seats and cage will be getting ordered this month or early next month.;)

Very very nice looking

18-12-2008, 09:23
You getting wallace to map it with dastek piggyback ecu?

cuprabaz
18-12-2008, 10:36
Possibly... There's another agent up here now Coachhouse Aberdeen 4x4(Ricky Gauld) in Aberdeen now so i might be using them. Need to go out and have a chat with them. The only thing i don't like about there set up is lack of big fans like Star's and Wallace but i'll see once i get there.

Al
18-12-2008, 11:15
If you do get the piggyback jobby, I would chance going with Russell at Wallace Barry.

You not going to change out the turbo now then?

cuprabaz
18-12-2008, 11:36
Mmmmm i'll see. I've been to see Russell so i'll go see Ricky & Dave then make a decision.

Of course, i wouldn't be looking at the Unichip if i wasn't getting the turbo:confused:

beattie17
18-12-2008, 12:12
Will the piggy back ecu work fine with the standard ecu yeah? Am very interested in going this way also.

What turbo you looking at?

cuprabaz
18-12-2008, 12:30
As far as i know they work with all ecu's but they definitely work with ours.

Going to send my ko3s to CR-Turbo's to get the hybrid treatment.:D Not wanting massive power just something that's going to be fun with out costing silly amounts.

I always say it, but I'd defo get a red cupra if I were to change mine! How much did it cost to get the vent in the wing Baz? I need to replace mine and was thinking on similar lines?

cuprabaz
21-01-2009, 23:39
Not sure mate, got a load of other stuff done at the same time. But i was told that it's a pain in the hoop to do. The vent itself is straight and wing is curved so there's a fair amount of work getting it right

Ibiza 130 tdi, cheers mate. Although i may have to loose the gauge pod on the A-pillar because of the cage.

where can i get hold of a bolt in cage???

where can i get hold of a bolt in cage???

As far as i know they work with all ecu's but they definitely work with ours.

Going to send my ko3s to CR-Turbo's to get the hybrid treatment.:D Not wanting massive power just something that's going to be fun with out costing silly amounts.

any idear how much that would cost as i would like to send my ko3s there when it turns up?

JS, nae luck:p I've labelled up now.

Peachy, the only places i've found so far are Rallynuts and Demon Tweaks but both are for the mk2 but everyone says they'll fit the mk3. If it doesn't fit i'll make it!!;)

CR-Turbo's offer a couple of options for the hybrid ko3/s etc but for the up to 300hp version it's around £600.

I'd say £600 is alot of money but 300BHP is asking alot of a KO3s so its fair enough really.
Have they confirmed that this will 100% give you 300BHP?

Dam feck Noggie firewalls, canna see that anes either.

From memory i'm pretty sure they do a complete rebuild with the addition of a larger turbine wheel for £450 which will make 250.

I'll be happy if it makes over 285bhp but as long as it still spools quick for sprints and hillclimbs.
I'm looking at roughly £1500 all in. But these tyres were'nae cheap so that's dented the fund some what:doh:
Turbo -600
Unichip - 600
BAM Injectors - 80
BAM Fuel Pump - 40
BAM MAF Tube - 30
Baz special DIY TIP.:D 40 plus oil, gaskets

Yip new tractor tyres! Very impressed!!

Just a wee update. My cage, seats and baffled sump(cheers Rob) have all arrived and just my luck they all turned up a few days after I came back to work.

No pics yet for obvious reasons but i'll get some taken when i get back.

Made a wee bit of progress when i was home. Relocated the wmi pump to the spare wheel well and fitted the new tank. Also wired up an arming switch for the wmi along with toggle switches for the electric windows. Oh and I ripped out the aircon and fitted my new horns.

Cheers boys. I was like a kid at christmas when i got back on thursday:D

Just wire it in and all you have to do then is set up the launch control. As far as i'm aware.

Not sure yet going to be getting it MOT'd as soon as the cage, harness bar and harnesses are in and that should this week. Buffed of all the paint ready for welding last night and took a few more brakets off.
***TOP TIP*** If your trying to remove stuff that's spot welded don't bother with a proper drill bit for doing so just grind the bu99er off saves drilling holes in the paper thin floor!! Should have remembered from last time - ooops!

Willie
10-05-2009, 08:10
So have you sorted out your emissions or do you have a friendly MOT station

cuprabaz
10-05-2009, 08:37
Emissions should be bang on. The problem turned out to be an air leak on the map sensor, i hadn't torqued it up properly and never thought to check it!!:hide: It worked out quite well though because if it hadn't failed that mot i wouldn't have the Warrior, the cupra probably wouldn't be in the butchered shape it's in and i'd probaby be banned haha.

Just a couple of little updates.

Had a little trouble getting gas for the welder but it should all be sorted when i get next week, got plenty of welders but no gas!:censored:
I fitted my new wishbone bushes, top mount and top mount bearing to the passenger side only before i left.

With me still swithering whether or not to go for the hybrid a friend of mine had offered to have a look at my map to see if there could be any improvements made to what i already have so that if i did go for the hybrid then i'd have a decent base map for them to work with. We were unable to get the map off the car with the ecu installed so it was removed and opened up. Star had fitted a scrambler board, desolder job coming up.
I also raised the back of the bonnet to aid cooling and fitted bonnet pins because catch on the carbon bonnet doesn't look the safest. Personally i like the look of it now but i'm sure others will say it looks like it's been in a smash:)

04-06-2009, 08:53
Looking purposeful there Baz.
I'll be looking to lift the rear of my bonnet too to aid cooling.
How did you do it?
How was drilling the bonnet to fit the pins, always thought it was liable to cracking

cuprabaz
04-06-2009, 09:51
Cheers Willie.

I just used nuts and washers to give me the extra height, took a little bit of pr*cking about to get at the height i wanted.
The bonnet was easy enough to do. There were already holes in the fibre glass frame so i only had to drill the carbon then file it out to the correct size. Getting the height and alignment for these also took fair bit of pr*cking about but i'm pleased with how it all looks.:D

Willie
04-06-2009, 09:55
When's it all going to be done?
It sounds like you are trying to get EVERYTHING done prior to getting it on the track.
Is it not able to be driven just now so you can at least get a bit of fun in it while researching other bits and pieces?

cuprabaz
04-06-2009, 11:24
Yip i'll be getting it all done prior to tracking it. I'm missing every single sprint and hillclimb event this year due to my rota but only found this out after i got my licence!! Once the cage is in it'll be getting mot'd, taxed and insured.
It could be driven but it's not road legal at the minute. It does get a run now and then on a private local road just to keep the rust off the discs.

I'm back on the 11th.[B)]

It's nearly there. The welder and up to know illusive gas are getting dropped off next week so the cage and harness bar will be fitted soon after. Once that lot is welded in place i can paint the inside then it's MOT time.:D

I've still got to stripped the G60 box to get the bits i want and i've got a man pricing up a LSD for me.:D But i'll be getting it MOT'd and insured before i do the gearbox etc.

Still to fit:
WOT BOX
Rear Beam Bushes
Drivers side Top Mount & Bearing & Wishbone bushes
Seats, the mounts are all made it they just need bolted in once the welding and painting is finished.

Allen, :blahblah:

Cheers Phil.

The subframes are the sparco ones for the mk3 but instead of using universal rails i've extended the front bracket that the small locking bolt at the front goes so that the seats are bolted straight on to the subframe(no sliding). I had to strenghten the frames a fair bit as they are very flexible.

I should have just welded on two sections of box beam quite low to the floor then sat the seats on side mounts and sliders like most people do, I'll do this at some point once i get the rest of the stuff i want done.

What do you mean you'll be seeing it in your mirror Willie, have you been drinking??
There hasn't been a problem with stones coming forward off the back wheels in the last 8 years so i can't see them starting now dude but I've got black mudflaps like Robdon's to go on the front.;)

Cheers Mark.

Dunno mate, no plans yet. I've still got the rear beam, steering rack and subframe bushes still to fit. I'm going to get the gearbox stuff done before i venture out on the track.

Also need to get another 2 R888's and another two Superleggera's. Anyone got any SuperL's kicking about??

My brother is taking my ecu into his work to remove the chip and scrammbler board Jim so kindly fitted. Once that's done we'll have be able to map it as normal. We've done a quite a few logging runs and there is room for improvement in the current map but we'll probably start a fresh.
