car magazine says end of the year.

Bear in mind that the Ibiza is not dismilar to the Alfa 147 then maybe the Cordoba may have a little bit of Alfa 156 in it

Well Cordoba drivers, details look really sketchy but can I say that there does seem to be evidence that there is a new Cordoba.

Has anyone had a look at http://www.seat.com/en , clicked on the Cordoba button at the bottom, and then clicked Sport? They say the thing's turbo charged, but what it's got, who knows?

I'm perched on the edge of mi seat (if you pardon the pun)!

Are we talking about the same thing here? Followed the link and clicked on Cordoba button and it appears to be the outgoing model (99 on), not a car based around the mk4 Ibiza (02 on)? BTW, having clicked on the Cordoba button at the bottom, click on Tech. Specifications - I gather it's a 156bhp 1.8 20vT.

The 99 on Cordoba (based on mk3 Ibiza) wasn't sold for long in the UK, it seemed to get axed at about the time the Leon was launched. Presumably something to do with saloons not being as popular as hatchbacks in the UK. Hatchback base was covered by the Leon, so...

I know a few people tried to track down RHD 99 on Cordoba's with the 1.8 20vT engine but to no avail. About the closest we came over here was what appears to have been a "stop-gap" model with 2.0 16v engine - someone found one for sale at one of the car supermarket type dealers a few weeks ago...

Ah right, so it's the phantom Cordoba then!

Yep, only saw pictures of a Saloon, which when you think about it would compete against Seat's own Leon. But what about a 2 door coupe? Mind you, the Leon's 4 doors are more practical, but I think a 2 door coupe is of the order.

If there are any 1.8 turbo Cordobas in RHD, be sure I'll be looking out for one! That would be a seriously stupid move to turn one down if one came up for sale.

Certainly, Seat's sporting focus is on the Leon Cupra R, and the sexy Cordoba seems to be just part of the lime light. Saying that, I'm proud to have a real individual wolf in sheep's clothing, and I plan to keep her for some time, unless of course a 20VT comes up!

There is definately going to be a New Cordoba,
SEAT will reveal the next generation Cordoba on the 26th September at the Paris motor show.
It is due on sale in the UK in spring 2003.

The engine sizes wil be: 1.4 (75 bhp)
1.9 Tdi (100 bhp)
1.9 Tdi (130 bhp 6 speed)

Hopefully they will introduce a Cupra at a later stage.

Pics should start to appear soon...watch this space!

Cheers, Rob.

if you goto seat.com, they have a flash teaser of the new Cordoba with red stripes flashing across.

I have quickly taken some screen grabs and mixed them together, so that you can make out more of the car

Seems to have a mix between a Alfa 156 and a Daewoo Nubira about it (did you know the Nubira was submitted by Ital Design to Alfa for the 156). Looks quite attractive, boot is high but not too high like current Cordoba

anyway, here you go

Will they be re-badged for these shores? I gather previous models have used these trim designations on the continent but they tend not to use "Stella" as a trim designation in the UK.

As far as I'm aware it will be Stella and Sport but who knows come next year

All Seats have different designation abroad, so the Leon for instance is Stella Signo and Sport (at least MY2002) which in the UK would roughly translate to S, SE and the Sport was a TDi SE or Cupra.

Many companies do this, not just Seat. (Badges arent used abroad, just in UK, and they are put on here by Seat UK or dealer - not sure on that)

Maybe that means it'll come with the option of beer can or lucuzade holders instead of the usual 'cup' ra variety?

oh the wit

I'm off to Spain next week, so its unlikely I'll see one on test or at a dealer (is it actually available in Spain from 26th? or just unvieled) or in a Spainish Mag, I'll grab some piccys.

Official ones might be out by then.

I wonder if they will do a van and estate. Just wondering. I also wonder if the Cordoba will be available as a Polo Saloon. Not big sellers here, but they are elsewhere.

Did you know that a Cordoba is sold (as it, so original Cordoba lights, grille etc) in China with VW Polo badges. Only saw them in Beijing, nowhere else. Weird place, each city has there own "range" of cars, so Citroen ZX's are everywhere in BJ, while VW Santana's and Passats are in Shanghai,,,anyway, I digress (and probably sent most of you to sleep!!!)

still not a fan of the front - but I could live with it if it's good

here are the smaller versions.

like I mentioned earlier, like the lights, boot line and bumper trearment, less keen on the small rear window and the kick up of the small window on the side.

I think the hight waist is even more apparent on this than the Ibiza, but that might be just to do with the lighter colours.

I'm with you there - as for the front end (and i'm fully aware that this may be a bit controversial) I think it's far nicer than the outgoing Ibiza and Cordoba.

Am I the only one who thought "baby Alfa 156"? Not that that's a bad thing, you understand... And will there be a 2-door 'coupe/SX' variant? And a decent petrol motor (that goes for the mk4 Ibiza too)... And will I ever stop asking questions...? :D

methinks the 2 door (cupra, sx is gone i think) will have the same window arangement as the 99 model (mine) i think its cause there are 4 doors that the there is silly wee windows on the side too. looks kinda nice tho!!
where did i put that granny for sale sign??

Looks nice. reminds me of a Fiat Marea.

What about the all important question? Will there be a Coupe version? If not then why not!??

Dont see the point in launching the cordoba as a 4 door only, it will rival the leon to be honest, both 4 door and of similar size. I bet hardly any sell, just like the old one!

Could they have made it more like the ibiza :-)

Front end is almost identical, and the interior looks identical too - guess it ought to save on parts though?

cordoba is a saloon ibiza.. the 2 door performs equally and handles better than the ibiza tho :) anyone disagree??

who knows if they will produce a 2 door, but I did a very quick sketch of what a 2 door would look like

While manufacturers quoted figures may be the same, it strikes me that all the extra metal must have an impact on how heavy the car is. Power to weight ratio anyone?

I was told teh cordy handles better because the rear overhang gives it better balance?

could be a load of crap though!

I think mine handles bad! maybe used to the previous car which had 18's and a 40mm drop! :D

cordobabrendy
04-09-2002, 19:43
have you done anything to help the handling yet matey? you wanna try eibachs if you havnt. :)

RadCordy

No not done anything yet, saving the cash though!

What we talking? Springs? or full kit?

Might save up for some coilovers, do they make them for the cordy?
