got a 2.o 16v cordy sx with rage back box 4.5" induction kit fse boost valve and topped out tonite at 125ish is there any way to go quicker excluding head cam etc also i thought when i first got the car it did about 130 ish easier any ideas much needed as otherwise its gonna have to be nos i think or change car  quinch
New plugs & leads & a damn good service?
and after that take it to amd for a remap to about 170 bhp,
up to 170bhp from a remap on a 16v, r u sure? what are they standard? I would have said 6 bhp maximum. The figures they quote for normally aspirated cars in the magazines are absolute tosh! I would say get some decent power mods first like, cams, manifold, sports cat and cat back exhaust system then get the chip to smooth out the fueling.;)
with the cams, chip, head, exhaust and modded airbox i've had the speedo needle resting on the stop (indicated 150, but its nowhere near that in real terms), whether the extra mileage loosens it up - as I heard VW 16v engines don't make full power till about 50 thousand miles.
Have you tried ditching the interior and other weight saving stuff - should give you some extra zip.
By the way, how often do you do 120+???
have u had it rolling roaded? whats standard power?
Standard power for a 16v cordy is 150bhp - before the chip and exhaust it was RR'd as having that at the wheels, after a shonky test at powerstation...well we won't mention that.
getting a flow job makes such a difference and it sounds wicked!

170BHP from a chip is a little exagerative. Most 2.0l N/A remapped chip mods show about 10-12 BHP increase. That's easy to see how when the original fueling and timing maps do tend to be really conservative and safe. Everyone that has a chipped car must bear this in mind, coz the safety factors put into these maps are taken right down to the limit, greatly increasing the posibility for detonation, so make sure you use good fuel from a reputable petrol station.
QUINCH: Why you're only getting 120 MPH can only be because there's something not right. Mine can pull to an indicated 130 on the flat (after a long while!) every time. What oil are you using (shite oil causes friction, lots of drag especially at high RPMs)? You don't have to use fully synthetic but it should be at lest semi-synthetic. I'm using 10w40 in mine quite happily.
Have you got a modified induction system or lots of dust/debri in the filter/airbox? Check it out. N/A cars seriously need them things as clean and as free flowing as possible, or it will greatly hamper your top speed.
Oh yeah, and just like Mark suggests, keeping to the service schedule is paramount. Keeping the car fit and healthy, preventing major problems before they happen by fixing the minor ones is a far better policy than vast repairs from waiting for it to break-down.

at brunty i had mine just past 130, on "private " roads ive had her to 137 but again, how accurate the needle is, i dunno, also mine seems to pullwillingly up to where yours is getting and does have more so if i was you id get everything checked out, inc ecu diagnostics.
its due for an annual service it had its 40 000 service last time so they said only a standard service and according to castle gate the place where she was bought from shes got fully syn oil in her regards for the info have we got any idea how much (roughly) it would cost for flowed head cams ecu remap plus what gains if you lose the cat and who makes one etc quinch oh and by the way "quiet roads and lack of cops helps the 120 ish its 26 miles to norwich go clubbing leave there 2.30 am get home about 25 mins later lovely quinch

You want a chat with ScottyP. He's got the RPM conversion that closely matches your requirements, if 185 BHP is in order. Oh, it's £2'000! Chip, cams, head job (ooh just what the doctor ordered. Hu hum) and you need induction and exhaust on top of that. Check out Longlife exhausts (there's a posting on the Cordy forum about exhausts a few months back when I had mine done); they fabricate a stainless steel pipe for your car, and they can make you a slip on cat replacement (pipe) so you can put the cat back on for MOTs. Apparently, the Cordy 2.0 16V already has a performance cat.
Keep us up to date with any mods that you have done.
Cheers,
