View Full Version : Boot Jammed Shut? Heres how to open it....
Forget removing the plastics inside. Here's how to do it with the key.
The boot lock only works via central locking when in the VERTICAL position. So get the key vertical when in the lock. Turn it all the way clockwise. Then All the way back anti clockwise, which will be past the vertical. Not turn it back clockwise to vertical. Remove the key and hey presto, open the boot.
It actually says how to do it in the manual thing. lol.
Mine has been shut for over two months coz i couldnt be arsed to do it.
Stuck - that's a good one!
Lol, cheers for that mark.
I;m gonna do a therad that answers all the usual questions for the mk2 cupra soon.

i have tried that numerous times, but it never works.. always end up taking the trim off... until i got a new boot lock on tuesday morning.
my boot has been locked shut recently. thanks for the advice
ps i think i am the only person with a seat ibiza cupra 20vt in cyprus, its just been shiped over. it very good to be reunited with it as its fast and no one knows its fast.
That one didn't work for me - but for some reason, what DID work was holding the handle open - locking it, unlocking it...
hey presto - boot now opens.
Might not work for all, but worth a try for others.
Thats exactly what i've posted....
Its all in the manual anyway.
But I didn't use the lock on the boot as that didn't work... I used the keyfob.
I am going to have to read the manual, i tried both of the above and neither worked :(
Dont worry I fixed it at the weeknd, the locking mech wasnt fliscking across when being unlocked. I took the panel off and flicked it across to 'reset' it, works fine now :)
Great advice, saved 6'6" of me crawling throught the back seats to dismantle trim. cheers.

useful tip if it ever gets stuck :)
Thought Id add this to the thread, My boot was jammed shut for like 8 months-never could be arsed to take it the garage as they said it would be £40 (at least) for diagnostics. I heard that they charged my mate £148 to get this fixed because they said it needed a new solanoid???? Really???
This is what was wrong with mine.....

The small plastic elbow joint (arrow 1) came of the metal bar (arrow 2) as the plastic elbow has a thread in that worn away, all that i did was glued it back on, easy.....apart from takin the plastic cover of the boot-that annoyed me [:@] lol,
Now ya jus wonder if you took it VDub would they have charged me £148?

Yes there is a part number on the clip mate just give the dealer a ring an they'l sort u out.
This is the most common fault ive found with the boot being jammed shut as its the thread on that clip that strips so no matter what you do with the key it will not open. Ive had this on both my cupra and my old 1.4s

First method worked like a dream, cheers guys
tried this with the key worked brilliant unfortunately i had already removed some plastic bits which took longer to put back than to get in the boot, many thanks
I have the opposite problem my boot keeps opening its self ! While driving. So i stop close it is fine takes a couple of attempts to close it then its fine. But then it wont open useing the handle then drive along again and it pops open again !? The only way can get in is by getting in the boot any ideas ?
how do you get the panel off to get at the boot mechanisism i have took the 2 screws out but i can see any more and been fighting with it for ages!
i managed to sort mine turned out part of the handle had rusted bit of wd40 sorted

There is 3 screws. two in the bulb gaps and one int he handle pull down bit. Then its still hard to get off as the clips on the inside are very tight.
Wish i'd seen this post before climbing int he boot and taking the plastic off. I reset it and then it was fine. Will try the easy option next time:(
