View Full Version : 1.4 ibiza tuning help needed
Hello,
I need some help on making my 1.4(i know its not a cupra but this is the only decent forum i could find) 94 3dr Ibiza faster and louder. Could anyone tell me how much of a difference adding an induction kit, new sports exaust and any other performance increasing products will make.
Can ne1 tell what can increase the acceleration and bhp of my car. I have tried to find induction kits and eaxuasts but the people i have gone to only do them for cupra gtis. Are there any other car kits that will fit, eg 1.4 polos???

Can ne1 help plz

welcome aboard matey, this community is for all sorts matey, as far as tuning for the 1.4 goes, before i had my 16v cordy coupe, i had a 1.4 and the furthest i ever went was getting a Green induction Kit which transformed the sound of the car and possibly a little extra oomph (not much mind!) i also went about uprating the discs to a better manufacturer and pads also. I lowered the car with springs from SEAT and the car definately handled the corners better, if you do a fair bit of country driving then the best bHP increase you can get is to sort the brakes and suspension, this way you can carry your existing speed into the corners and not have to worry about having to boot the life out of the car to get it going again.
Other possibilities i suppose are cam and chip combinations, lightened flywheel (may not add bhp but makes the car rev that bit easier), flowjob ( polishing/smoothing the bits that are cast and a bit rough that hamper airflow to make them allow air to travel into the engine that bit easier).
More exotic and expensive methods include superchargers (unit bolted onto the engine that compresses air much like a turbo but doesnt rely on exhaust pressure as its belt driven so in reality there is no lag whatsoever, turbochargers possibly slightly cheaper than s/charged and equally as effective if not more so depending on the turbo used. Boring out the Cubic Capacity to a larger size, from what ive seen on here 1650 cc seems to be the most you can go without seriously jeopardising the reliability.
Dont forget that with the more bhp you would need to substitute some of the original gear for stronger parts, ie gearbox, may be strong for a 1.4 but if you up the power by say...50% the gearbx definately wont last long as it would struggle with the extra torque.
Im no engine wiz so if you have any questions give bill or RobT a shout as they are the engine blokes to chat to on here!! Or maybe autotechnics, whats that number again bill???

Have a look at the TSR site - there's some very naughty stuff goin on there.
Don't worry about the mention of 1.4 16v engines. 1.4 8v engines are more amenable to supercharging etc.
First thing to consider is insurance - Changing you filter to a K&N (or other Hi flow filter) should not change your insurance - check with them waht does and does not affect it.
E.g.
1 - Sport filter - usually no insurance company takes any notice - no physical change in the car or what it costs to repair
2 - Stainesss steel back bos only exhaust - a bit pricey for the xtra bhp you would get - some insurance companies don't mind
3. Full exhaust cat back - will usually cost you some extra.
4. Exhaust and manifold - probaly not a huge change from above,
Have driven a 1.4 8v Ibiza as a loan car from a 177 bhp Cordoba its a heavy car for that engine but I liked it - put another 10 bhp on it and sort the suspension :) not too low or you'll bugger the driveshafts.
My advice - Don't go mad and wait till you can get a cupra and transfer you mods onto that (wheels, stereo, lights).
Right, now where are my slippers......
Nurse?......nurse..........hmmmnmnmnn mmmmm:sick:
Thanx for your help, much appreciated. Are you sure that these mods wont affect my insurance as im only 17. Also as i am on a bit of a budget, whats the best thing to do first that will give more bhp and a greater difference in proportion to how much it costs, an exaust or an induction kit/filters.
Also could you tell me where the cheapest place is to get some kit such as an f2 bumper + side skirts or anything similar.
Ive got a 1.4 Had green induction kit fitted (£70) stainless steel powerflow cat back exhaust (£200) got some skirts and 17"s and some other bits and bobs.........got some new springs and should get em fitted on thursday ;0)
Zaust and induction kit makes it sound well nice though!

I used to have a 1.4 and have a piper full cam kit from it which i took out before selling the car.
It includes both cam and hydraulic tappets, they cost me £280 and have only done about 2000-3000miles.
Im looking for £160 for the kit, which when combined with either power boost valve or chipping gives approx 15bhp more. Not bad on the wee 1.4 engine!

Oh yeah, as for induction kits check your engine code... if its AEX then a 1.4 polo mpi induction kit will fit as thats what i had on mine.

P.S. just make sure you have lots of cold air going to it! makes a difference!
