Hi,

I'm looking to get a new Leon for Sept 1st but can't decide between the TDI 110 or the Cupra. I've test-driven the TDI (MY2002) and liked it but was unable to test the Cupra.

I like the look of the MY2003 Cupra but does the MY2003 TDI look the same or is it more like the lower-spec models?

How does the performance compare? Someone told me that unless you floor the Cupra they feel pretty similar up to the legal speed limit - is this true?

I'm tempted by the low running costs of the TDI but I want some excitement out of the drive, too.

Thanks in advance,

Mike.

The cupra drove well when i test drove one, but i opted for the TDi 110. No complaints here.......but cant wait until it gets chipped in a months time. 150bhp here we come!!!

MY03 TDI with 16" wheels will look more like MY02 Cupra than MY03.

A 110TDI won't be close to a Cupra in terms of pace, unlike the euro only TDI150 which would match it in the 30-90 range.

As already stated, a remapped 110 provides similar results ~ have a look at stats on www.upsolute.com

mikez,
I've driven the Cupra back to back with the TDI SE. I thought the TDI is almost as fast for general driving, flat out the TDi just doesn't have the bhp to keep up. The handelling is a little firmer in the Cupra - just a little more low speed 'jogging' - not much in it to be honest.

Personally if (like me) u were not bowled over by the performance of the TDi test drive a Golf 130 GTi spec (GTDI). I floored the car from rest in 1st gear and around 25 mph the car started to spin its wheels it had that much torque theres a big difference between 175 and 228 foot lbs of torque.

I have a cupra and as soon as they release the 150tdi I will be trying it! I think (although I have not driven) the 110tdi will be too slow for me (although I doubt I get anywhere actually quicker in the Cupra). Performance and fuel economy - the holy grail!

Thanks for all your replies. To be honest I don't think it's going to make much difference on the roads I use. Plus, the bulk of my driving is my daily motorway commute of 40 miles (in the rush hour).

I think I'm going to go with the TDi then think about an Upsolute chip at a later stage.

Cheers,

Mike.

I'll be really interested to hear what difference it makes when you get it done :)

I've been told that I should expect to see a gain of about 30% power, but well have to wait and see.
I'll post another thread when it gets done.

i did drive both and while I natuarally preferred the performance of the Cupra, the torque (mainly low down) and mpg of the diesel swung it for me.

...you could always get a 110TDi SE and then Upsolute it

I take it you've seen neil's thread here (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=7992)

Neil has the Upsolute remap ~ less than £300.
