View Full Version : Test drive - 200sx
as I'm looking to change my car i thought I'd go for a few test drives over the next week and see what the competition has to offer - first up, P reg nissan 200sx from a main dealer.
Read all the bumpf, very quick handfull in the wet, 200bhp - started to drool...
Got to the test drive, damp road surface, loverly!:D the sales bloke gave me the warning 'its a bit of a beast, and a bit lively in the wet' - if only.
Never have I had such an instantly forgettable test drive, no engine or road noise, a reclined driving position which was perfect for nodding off in, and boat like handling. Giving it beans resulted in... not much apart from the speedo needle moving, no turbo kick no feeling of speed - 80 felt like 10mph, at this point even the salesman started to yawn.
my cordy would eat this boat, no contest - they offered me 4k trade in on mine, with 3k to swap - maybe when i'm old ;) :p

Fatty, your car is shit hot. I've never seen one looking as good as that before!! Nice plate as well.
bloody hell, a simple post goes all nasty :D
should have added 'imo' after the post, and for the record I really was disapointed - I like the look of 'em and on paper they're good - maybe it was a bad one (FSH,main dealer? ) and it was standard, where as i expect most of the owners club ones are modded (as on here)
As for being a twat, well that's changed my opinion of it! nob
oh, p.s
nice car fatty my man! love to see it in action in any direction on the day :D
no offence meant, just not my bag baby ;)
Hey Scotty,
I wouldn't worry about that thread - owners can get a bit verbal if someone doesn't agree with their opinions on the car :)
As for me - yup, I've got a modded 200sx (one of the older style ones, not like Fatty's) - wasn't bad in standard form but that was a few years ago so can't really make a convincing argument for it other than it was capable of getting up to an (indicated) 140mph on standard power. Handling wobbles a bit but slap on the right set of tyres and it makes all the difference. Once modified, of course, it can change massively.
PS. I agree, the later-model 200's are boats ;) :D :D
Just don't mention Clio 172's
yeah as Andy says, it's not anything personal, it's just people voicin off where they feel they're not under the watchful eye of others ;)(why Bean came across this link I do not know) but yeah as I say, don't take it personally, they are 2 different cars that do 2 different things in 2 different ways :) If it aint ur bag then it aint ur bag baby.
IMO the standard 200 is loads faster than anything I've ever driven B4, mind u this was my last car
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid13/p5eb807fd7a8e240919d11961cd3b44ff/fddad03c.jpg an 1800cc with a few bits that just seemed to make it louder (and not faster:rolleyes: )
might have been a bad 1 that u test drove as u say, I'd not write em off after looking at just 1 anyway :)
Cheers

(Ahh, British comedy at its best!)
You're gonna love that final corner Fatty. I was there last week, and was provoking the tail to let go on my fwd Leon round that bend on to the straight - it's fun! :D
Look forward to seeing you at Curborough,
Phill

"pardon? What?", "Well its not good enough!"
"Might I ask what you expect to see from a Torquey bedroom window? Heards of wilderbeast wondering majestically across the plains......................."
LOL - I love those shows.

Only on this forum could a thread about the Nissan 200SX meander off into quotes from Fawlty Towers and Dads Army! ;) :D
It's why I'm so glad they've opened up this little room for Non SEAT/VAG cars - it means I can prolong the mayhem when I get the new car. :D
:D
agree with Phil, where else would you get this level of conversation?! ;)
to all Sx owners reading, no offense taken - i'm suprisingly thick skinned, kind of like the look of that golf though! funny I found that tuning parts for 'em just made e'm louder and not particularly faster! Can't improve a classic I suppose.

Christ, hope the GTI forum aren't watching! :D
DoH!
the un will be doing a strike on my house, straight after Saddams! :D
I've owned 2 200SXs (both S13s, the one you drove was an S14) and there isn't a Cordoba built that will beat one. The S14 is a more civilised drive and has a very linear non-turbo style power delivery - the S14 uses the 2 litre SR20DET engine as used in the Sunny GTiR, whereas the S13 has the 1.8 litre CA18DET which is a lot peakier. I've driven loads of them (modded and standard) and they are one of the most under-rated cars on the road. I reckon the one you drove was broke, m8. :)
