I have some 120W front speakers, and some 150W 6x9s. I'm currently running them off the headunit with no amp installed. Problem is, I cant crank them up too loud or they distort.

I spoke to the guy at the shop who recommended I get an Audison amp to run the front speakers off (and subwoofer in future) but leave the rears alone. Would this work? I thought the best way would be to power the 6x9's with the amp.

I also have a 3rd set of Alpine speakers i'd like to run at the back.
Does anyone know of any good examples of a good ICE setup on the web?

the guys quite correct power the front speakers as thats where you want the sound to come from NOT behind you many differant amplifiers on the market and most do a very good job just choose what your system will include both now and in the future and then set yourself a price limit and then post on the forums again to see which amplifiers people can reccomend for that price ......

Ok, the guy recommended an Audison Power 2XR amplifier (they are selling them for £149), and they recommend these on the focal site too. As for subs, was thinking of going for focal again but I want to add that in a few months time.

Question is how much louder will I be able to amplify the front speakers (they are only 120W)? Also, I dont think the rear speakers are loud enough so could I use the amplifier for the 6x9s (they are 160W) too? I've never got my head round power ratings etc

So in a setup without a subwoofer where would be the best place to put the amplifier? Presumably in the boot, but where would you run the cables? Lastly, is getting speaker cable through the pipe to the front doors a difficult task?

Questions questions

audison make quite good amplifiers if you wereto buy this amplifier i would put it on the front speakers this is were you will here the most gain from your standard set up after this i would think about upgrading your front speakers then possibly adding a sub afterwards
one thing though if you are seriously thinking about adding a sub at alater date then you may well be better getting a four chanel amplifier instead of having to buy 2 two channel amps
definately upgrade the speaker cable this is not hard to do and make sure you use sufficient power cable to allow you to upgrade with another amplifier without having to run more cable.

In general its best to power speakers by a seperate power amp run off the Head Units preouts.

And yes use a bigger amp to the front speakers than the rears - makes the sound stage come from the front like in a auditorium.

What kinda sound are you after?? Sound Quality or do you want them to be loud and basy??

A mix of sound quality and bassy :)

How do you thread the cable from the amp through to the door? All there is, is a plug connector in a ribbed pipe. No space for speaker cables in there.

Also, where is a good place to mount an amp to power front speakers? Im getting a audison 2ch amp for next to nothing, so im going to buy another to go with it for a sub.

Are there any good examples on the web of installing an amp? I've never done it before, is it difficult?
