so, according to the stats ,seat and myself have been using the wrong oil in my 1.816v ,since i've had the car it's had 15w40 put in to it and by the looks of it it should have had 10w40 or does 12000 miles ayear and a couple of track days sound like light use ,

personally speaking in a 16V id be using the 10w40 synta semi synthetic OR 5w40 synta GOLD FULLY synthetic (DEAR STUFF)

the blue is for your usual run of the mill shopping trolleys

mind you as engine specs/performance change , stick to the handbook specs

WARNING latest pump diesel engines use their own specific oil (expensive) but CRITICAL

So then Flapper mate..

Looking at the oil info and from what you have said, the Gold stuff is the top bollax, so I take it that it is suitable for putting into my standard Cupra 1.8T??

when it comes round to service time for my car and they come to change the oil what would they put in?

They charge an absolute fortune for servicing as it is and they always charge you for your oil by the small bottle, so instead of buying a litre or whatever they charge you for two half litres, why do they do that, it is day light robbery as they don't buy it in small bottles they get it in big sod off buckets full of the stuff.

So if I was to say to my dealer I wanted the 'Gold' putting into my car when they service it, how much should I expect them to charge me for it? I expect that what you would charge and what my dealer would charge will be veyr different, due to you been a decent dealership (if not the best from what I have heard on here), and my dealership appears to be pretty crap (Trenton Hull).

Just wondered how much I would be stung if I asked for good stuff, and is it really worth it? does it make a difference?

Cheers..

the gold is indeed the top bollo* , fully synthetic

is available in 1l and 5l as retail packs

bear in mind most dealers nowadays use pump oil so it may well
be worth asking wots goin in your car

GOLD is appprox £18 for 5litres I THINK

i'll check and list all the prices up

ooooh nearly forgot :

if you intend to use FULLY synthetic in your car (any model) please leave it until you have given the car a chance to bed in
as using FULLY SYNTHETIC from new will cause the bores to glaze up (again ANY car) as the owner of the 32,000 mile RS turbo engine on the bench @ my dad's place will vouch , changed it too fully synth @ 3000 and every 5000 after . ewwwww

apart from the fact it is a lot dearer , engines require a little wear and tear to bed in and settle down

cheers

I run my 2ltr 16v Jetta exclusively on Quantum 15w40 changing every 3K miles. It is as cheap as chips when bought in 25L (£18). I tried fully synthetic Mobil1 but that oil was just too thin and the engine had less oil pressure and rattled like a ******* on cold start from the hydraulic followers.
Its good stuff. My motors internal as as new. Spotless in fact.

yea, flapper the halfords's gold is a bit expensive, £19.99 over here. but i think its worth it, my motor gets a flush, filter and fully synthetic oil every 8k, some say 5k for fully synthetic but unless you rallly the life out of the car 8 should be spot on, dunno whether its anything to worry about but at around 5000+rpm the engine starts to sound a bit harsh, more than it did when i bought it??? dont think its the oil cause it was happening on thicker oil too, whatcha think, oil pump chain noisey?? sounds funny, like a one of those party things you blow and the end flys out and makes a high pitched noise!!!!

youre 16V has a cam chain and a belt so i suspect possibly a dodgy cam belt tensioner ???

bills a 16V man he may know , bit hard without hearing it (ping sound byte arrives in the post LOL)

try the SILVER Quantum Synta , next change , bit more suited really to the original 16V'ers
