or maybe not, test drove one today and...loved it!! everything comes to hand nicely, pulls like a train;) and handles like a hooligan! well underestimated - might even seriously consider the turbo version when someone buys the cordy. If only I could get past the image...

go on then mark, how many Mr2's going to alconbury? :D :p

first read that & it said (in my messed up head) Test Drive MG something or other (big time abuse was going to start)

None is the answer I'm afraid - something about the wrong wheels being turned

btw - the Mk1 handles better :)

Well said that man!

I was quite prepared to hate them (bl**dy hairdressers car!) - then had a ride in a mates...

I now own a '93 GT T-Bar Turbo (as a second car to my Leon Cupra). Bags of Grip. Nice handling. Stunning acceleration away from the line (quicker than the Leon).

Shame the turbo runs out of steam at around 5500 rpm on the pre-94 cars, but what the hell - for the price they are bargainous.

I am getting mine rolling roaded prior to starting mods tomorrow. Allegedly makes 220bhp standard - I'll be aiming for an "easy" 240bhp with a master boost controller and fuel cut defender - should wee all over a chipped Leon Cupra.

nice! are they fairly robust? there are rumours that toyotas turbo charged engines aren't as tough as they should be.

did you have any probs with insurance?

questions, questions, questions...:D

Very robust, provided the oil is changed every 3000-4000 miles or so and the warm up / cool down procedures are correctly followed.

The 3SGTE can be tuned to pump out 450bhp on stock internals (and 700bhp + with forged pistons). Limitation on earlier cars is the stock fuel system which is good for around 280-290bhp.

Plenty of cars on the US boards that have done 140K+ on original engine + turbo.

My car has done 67K miles and burns no oil + makes full boost.

No problems with insurance - the MR2 Drivers club do a scheme which covers you for ANY mods at no extra charge (provided you give written notice) and covers you for track days at no extra charge. I pay the the same for the MR2 as I do for the Leon Cupra (but I can mod it is much as I want :D ).

You can pick up a good 90 model (Rev1) for less than 4K, 93 model (Rev2 - Bilstein suspension, bigger brakes, bigger wheels) for 5k, 94+ Model (Rev3 - different turbo 245bhp) start at around 5.5K.
