What is the life expectancy for a front shock? (motorway miles - mostly!)

Toledo V5 (W-2000)

I need to replace a coil spring and was wondering whether to change to whole assembly as my car has covered 60K.
Any thoughts, anyone?

Cheers

If you're doing a spring anyway I'd change them (would do both sides).

Shocks can last as little as 30K.

Hi Mate
I would say at 60k you should be looking at replacing the shockers with the springs now.
I have seen shockers leaking with as little as 40k on the clock.
When I worked at the dealers , they was looking at possibly putting 60k on the life expectancy.
But warranty wise anything after 40k they would class as fair wear and tear.
You will find that it is not more time wise to replace both , so I would reccomend this.

thanks for the replies everyone.

I think replacing the whole lot sounds like the way to go. Especially with the miles I am doing!!

Hi Stu
Yes tell me about miles :(
But I must admit get some good music on and time flies with the miles.
People think I am daft as I all but dance at the same time ;)
But then it is good to have the peace of mind that you have some good shockers to go with them springs.
Are you going for lowering or just replace tired springs?

Only went for the springs in the end (cash flow crisis!!)

I have heard there are issues with lowering a V5, something to do with the low sumps. I have too many speed bumps around my way to even consider that! To improve the roll, I was going to get an Eibach uprated roll bar. That's next onto the list.

Sarah - Whats your ride?

Hi Stu
I am a BIG Skoda fan and I have a standard (at the moment ) 100PD Fabia.
I have worked for 2 Skoda dealers and have loved the cars for the 5 and a half years that I worked for them.
But I suppose I should know what is available for my car.
But dont worry I will mod soon.
I do quite a fair few miles getting to work and back just now but will be looking at moving up here.
So I will noy be doing too much to her just now.
1st job is her name ;)
